The Lip Seal Kit is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool washing machines. It contains new seals that surround the tub opening and help prevent water leaks. This lip seal kit includes the revised lip seal, grease, O-ring, seal tool, washer kit, and instructions. The rear bearings are sold separately. Their part numbers are WP22003441 and WP22002934.

Symptoms of failed lip seals include:

  • Water leaks from around the washer opening or tub area
  • Puddles or standing water underneath after a cycle
  • Visible cracks or splits in existing seals

Causes may involve standard wear from machine operation, rubbing against the tub surface. Mineral buildup can also shorten seal lifespan if not periodically cleaned.

This OEM Whirlpool part fits models by Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and select Kenmore washing machines.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Lip Seal Kit (Part Number: OEM12027273)

Mike for Model Number MAH6500AWW

I have the bearings and seal removed from the outer drum. I am inquiring to make sure you have the front and rear bearings, and the seal for this model of Maytag. Also, there is a steel bushing that is on the dive shaft that sits in between the bearings. Is the bushing available? Are there any other parts in that assembly that I may need? Once I hear back from you on the part numbers I will order the parts so I can complete my repair. The serial number on my unit is 34724148EA. Thanks.

Mike, the front bearing is part number WP22002934 and the rear bearing is part number WP22003441. The lip seal kit is part number 12002022. The bushing you need is not available separate from the outer tub part number 22004464. The outer tub includes the front and rear bearings as well as the bushing. Please refer to the following link for the bearing removal and installation in the case you replace those only. Thanks. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/washer-repair/57726-neptune-bearing-repair-pic-tutorial.html

T. S. for Model Number MAH5500BWW

I have replaced both bearings and the lip seal (old style) in my 12 year old Neptune washer. Twice now I have have smoke coming from the inside of the drum after the final spin cycle. Otherwise it works perfectly. Used the old style plastic retaining clip. The drum spins smoothly although the motor is warm to the touch after several loads. The motor has a slight bearing noise. Replaced the drain tube as well. Belt and pulley are fine. Any ideas? Thanks.

T.S. You will want to pull the unit back apart and install the plastic spacer that came with the lip seal kit. What is happening is the plastic spacer is spinning with the tub and causing the smoking.

Hello Grillo. If the bearings are bad in the unit and it is roaring, you will need to order and replace the outer tub assembly 22004465 on the unit. The bearings are made into the tub assembly.

Chris, It sounds like your installing the wrong seal in the assembly, the 12002022 kit should contain both seals and associated parts for the different versions of the spinner shaft assembly, but they are not interchangeable, unless you replace the spinner support shaft. You'll need to compare the replacement seal parts to the original (removed) parts and install the matching parts.

Hello Guy, You will need to open the machine and see where the water is leaking from. It can leak from any of the hoses, the water pump, the water inlet valve, the door boot, etc. Any water carrying part could be responsible. If the unit has set for several years with water in the pump, the water could have frozen and split the pump assembly or either hose attached to it.

Hello Bobjeeps, The transmission seal would not cause dirt or grease on shirts. You would want to check for fabric softner build up which would look like grease when it gets on clothing.

Hello Richard, The white clip that you are referring to is a spacer that they no longer use for replacing the bearing assembly.
