The Whirlpool LP gas conversion kit is an OEM replacement part responsible for allowing the conversion of a natural gas-powered dryer to operate on LP (liquid propane) gas. This kit contains the orifice, leak limiter, and an instruction sheet to guide the conversion process. Once the conversion kit is installed, it alters the fuel source of the dryer, allowing it to burn LP gas instead of natural gas. This conversion is necessary when a home or installation site lacks access to natural gas and relies on LP gas as the fuel source for heating appliances

Causes for needing an LP gas conversion kit include relocating the appliance to a home with LP gas, or preferring LP gas over natural gas for cooking efficiency or availability. The conversion process involves changing the orifices and adjusting the gas pressure to suit LP gas requirements.

Symptoms that indicate a need for conversion or issues with the current setup include:

  • Improper or uneven flame on the burners
  • Difficulty in lighting the burners
  • Burners not operating at full power
  • Gas smell indicating possible leaks or incorrect gas type

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Vern, Converting a dryer to LP gas, usually doesn't involve the motor or control board, unless you forgot to disconnect power and shorted something out. You'll need to remove the front panel, and recheck the door switch wiring, and possibly the wiring to the motor and thermostats, to see what may have been knocked or left loose or off. Good Luck and Thanks

Walter B. for Model Number MGDX700XW1

I purchased a Maytag Gas Dryer MGDX700XW1 on 12 Jan 2012. I also purchased a Type 4 (LPG) conversion kit which came with Type M and Type K Orifice Spuds and Regulator Block Open Plugs. I believe I have a Type M gas valve since the Conversion Instructions state that for Type K valves, coils are aligned with the inlet and for Type M valves the coils are aligned with the outlet. For the referenced dryer, please verify that it is Type M (or K if I am mistaken.) 2. There appears to be a difference in the burner assemblies for MGDX700XW0 and MGDX700XW1. For the 0 model, the parts diagram shows: 15. 694424 Leak, Limiter, 16. 694423 Screw, Regulator Adjustment, 17. 694422 Spring, Regulator. For the MCDX700XW1 model Maytag has replaced these parts with what appears to be a removable cap. The conversion instructions Step 7 states "Remove the leak limiter (Vent Cap) from the top of the Pressure Regulator. Step 8: Install regulator block open plug on top of pressure regulator and tighten moderately. Are these steps correct for the Dryer that I have? Do I need to remove the cap and whatever else is in the hole that the cap sits upon and install the Regulator Block Open Plug, or do I skip these two steps? Any elaboration and detail would be most appreciated. Thank you, Walter Bond

Hi Walter. Yes, you did purchase the correct LP Gas Conversion part # W11581317 for your model. Follow the instructions to a tee after removing the power and shut the gas supply off. You need to use the #55 orifice at the burner orifice end itself. Then remove only the blocking plug from the "nat" regulator and replace it w/ the one sent. You are correct that it is different from the 2-similar models. I looked the question up in WPl/Maytag service matters and find none. Thank You.
