The dishwasher is used infrequently. It stopped draining at Christmas and overflowed. We took it out, cleaned the drain basket, checked the drain hose, and thought it worked, but the next use, a few months later, and it did it again. When you run a cycle, the initial drain cycle before it runs the wash cycle seems to start. You can hear the sound of the drain pump (I think) start, but stop after a few seconds, repeats a few time. No drainage to the sink. It seems the drain pump “tries to run” but can’t. Is it likely to be the problem or am I better off taking it apart and seeing what else may be wrong?

Cidnor, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty drain pump if the pump is coming on but not draining the unit.

Jim, Sounds like all is fine except the drain pump will soon go out. All you could do is replace the pump.

Mike, You will want to check to make sure that there is nothing clogged in the pump assembly. If there is nothing clogged then you will want to check to make sure that that impeller is not damaged. Also check for a clogged drain hose.

Cosmas, You have a diverter motor on this unit that may have failed and the part number for the diverter motor would be W10537869 and will want to check to make sure that this motor is getting power. If there is power but not turning then the issue will be a faulty motor which will need replaced.

Hello J.L., I would open the unit and see if there is a bread tie or other debris in the pump. If nothing is located, replace the pump and motor assembly WPW10455261.
