1 Answer

Gino, With the issue that you are having, this would be caused by a faulty motor switch in which the motor would need to be replaced. The part number required is W10439651.

Hello Bob, If this is a 6651398581, this is normally caused by the motor switch. Since the switch is not available without the motor and switch assembly, you will need to order W10439651.

Motorman for Model Number I have a Sears Trash Compactor Model 7469000W0, S/N D60695637 with electrical schematic P/N 77364

The unit was working fine. I pushed the start button and the ram bottomed out but when it should have returned, the motor started to hum. I pressed the stop button and the motor stopped humming. Pressed start button again and motor hummed. I manually returned ram to top position (chain drive assy. is free and motor turns free) and pressed start again. Unit did not start, motor just hums. Do I need a new motor or directional switch or both. The P/N on the motor is 776828 and the number on the switch is GE 3ASM9A1B4? I found a replacement number for the motor which includes the switch which is W10439651. What will need to be done to retrofit this unit if indeed it is the only replacement?

1 Answer

Hello Motorman. You will need to replace the motor on the unit. If it is humming, it is bad.

Mike G for Model Number KitchenAid KUCC151LSS0 Trash Compactor

My trash compactor was working fine but on the return up it started making a strange kind of clunking sound. I tried it again but it didn't happen. Then my wife said the noise happened when she used it. I tested it one more time and it made the noise and then a little bit of white smoke started coming out of the compactor and it smelled of melting plastic/electronics. I haven't taken it apart yet but I'm assuming the motor is dead now - is there anything else I should be looking at? Thanks!

1 Answer

Mike, You'll need to remove the compactor from the counter, remove the top panel and check the "power screws" WPW10451272 on each side of the ram assembly. It's not unusuall for plastic bags or strings and the like, to wrap around the power screw and cause an "overload" on the motor when the residue gets stuck to the power screws or power nut assembly and cause the noise and actions you described.

Bob for Model Number 665.13612100

I have Kenmore trash compactor 665.13612100. When in extra pack mode the ram will come down and stop as it should. When I try to turn the switch to raise it up it makes a loud buzzing noise and won’t come up. If I hit the switch several times it will kick in once in a while and raise up or it will trip a breaker in the unit and be totally dead for about 20 minutes until it resets. It is getting progressively worse and louder. In regular mode it seems to be louder when it hits bottom and reverses. It has stuck down in this mode once as well. Bad motor?

1 Answer

Bob, The motor switch on the unit would be causing this issue due to contacts sticking. You will want to replace the motor for this issue.

Nothappywithsears for Model Number 665.13619101

I have a 5 yr old Kenmore trash compactor that started not working - model 665.13619101. Would just make banging noise and not compact (like ram was trying to go up rather than down; screws were turning). Manually depressing the direction switch made it go down, but then it started smoking! It is working like normal now, but inspection shows motor coils are blackened in parts, and I'm afraid it's a potential fire hazard? I see you have motor W10439651, is that correct motor (appears similar at least), and directional switch 777811 - are those the parts I need to fix?

1 Answer

Nothappywithsears, Yes it appears that you will need the motor and the directional switch and the part number for the motor is W10439651 and the directional switch is part number WP777811.

Joe, You will want to check the directional switch at the top to make sure that it is adjusted properly. If this checks ok then the motor switch W10439651 would be faulty and need to be replaced.
