Causes of a bad Ice Auger Gear Motor can include wear and tear from regular use, electrical issues that prevent the motor from receiving power, or mechanical problems that hinder the motor's ability to turn the auger.

Symptoms of a bad Ice Auger Gear Motor include:

  • The ice dispenser not working or dispensing ice very slowly.
  • A humming or grinding noise coming from the ice dispenser mechanism.
  • Ice not being dispensed at all, despite there being ice in the bin.

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Hello Barney, You should first remove the dispenser cover and check the control bracket WP2180226 fo any broken pins. The pins that support the switches are common to break in your model.

Kohler, This issue sounds like the motor will be causing the issue. If the motor is humming but the shaft is not turning then the issue will be the motor.

Danny, Based on your refrigerator you would open the freezer door and access the motor that way. If you look at the 3rd shelf from the bottom, look up and there is a cover there being held by 2 screws. Remove that cover to access the motor. You will need to remove the shaft from the top in order to get the motor out.

Joe for Model Number Kitchenaid KSRG25FKSS15

I have kitchenaid KSRG25FKSS15 side by side refrigerator. The Ice Dispenser does not dispense ice when the ice paddle is depressed. It does not work for either cubed or crushed ice position. Is it possible to test the motor or circuitry to determine what is wrong?? I know how to use a multimeter but I don't know what to check or what voltage, AC or DC, etc it should read. Additional information. It worked fine up until a couple of days ago when the compressor failed and had to be replaced. We lost all of the contents of the freezer and refrigerator. When the ice maker started to make ice again after the compressor replacement, the dispenser did not work. Could the fact that the ice all melted out of the ice bin when the compressor failed have caused water to run into the motor and cause it to fail. If the motor is bad, can it be troubleshot and repaired?? Or does it have to be replaced?? How do you troubleshot it?? Thank you fro your assistace.

Joe, Yes, it is possible for water to enter the dispenser assembly and damage the motor, it's not that common an issue. First you'll need to remove power to the refrigerator, access the motor and tape the door switch down. disconnect the wire harness to the motor, you will be testing for voltage on the harness. reestablish power to the refrigerator. Press the Unlocked button on the ice and water dispenser front panel. Touch the AC meter test leads to wire harness pins 3 and 5, then press the ice dispenser lever. The meter should read 115 VAC. Touch the DC meter’s black test lead to wire harness pin 6, and the red test lead to pin 7, then press the ice dispenser lever. The meter should read +115 VDC ±10%. Press the Crushed ice button on the ice and water dispenser front panel.Touch the DC meter’s black test lead to wire harness pin 1, and the red test lead to pin 2, then press the ice dispenser lever. The meter should read +115 VDC ±10%. Press the Cube ice button on the ice and water dispenser front panel. Touch the DC meter’s red test lead to wire harness pin 1, and the black test lead to pin 2, then press the ice dispenser lever. The meter should read +115 VDC ±10%. If you have the correct voltages, you will need to replace the motor WP2212363. If you don't have the voltages, then the front façade panel 2318965B or the harness is damaged.

Hello Lydia, This is commonly caused by the dispenser control bracket pins being broken. I would refer you to a replacement part but cannot since there is no model number listed from the appliances' I.D. tag. It would be similar to WP2180226.

Joe for Model Number WW27430W Jenn-Air double oven

I have a Jenn-Air electric double oven. In the last few years I've repaired and replaced parts. Both lower and main oven boards, both oven sensors and upper oven element have been replaced. Problem I'm having now is the cooling fan at times shuts off and on then sometimes stays off then the oven over heats and shuts down with the error code. The error code tells me bad oven sensors but I'm sure it's because of the fan going off and on then staying off. Most commonly happens when both ovens are on (Of course on Thanksgiving Day) or when we turn on the broiler. A few times it happened with just the upper oven on. I clamped my volt meter on the cooling fan leads at the mother board and the voltage was dropping in and out. Seems like the fan is OK. Does this sound like a bad board? I replaced it 2 years ago. Just wanted to make sure before I spend another couple hundred bucks on another board. Thanks for the help. Joe

Joe for Model Number KithenAid 42 inch side by side built in. Model KSS042QMWOO

I had the inverter module for the compressor short out so the refrigerator was down for a week. Installed new part and turned back on. Everything was working great except for the ice maker dispenser. The auger would not turn. I took it out and put it back in and it started to work. The next day would not work again and still to this point not working. The water dispenser side works along with the light. Thought maybe the auger rusted up when things defrosted when the refrigerator went down.

Joe, The auger motor being faulty would be the most likely cause for it not working. The motor may have seized up and will cause the issue that you have.
