The Ice Auger Gear Motor is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This part powers the auger that moves ice from the bin into the dispenser. This motor ensures that ice can be delivered smoothly and efficiently whenever needed.

Causes of a bad Ice Auger Gear Motor can include wear and tear from regular use, electrical issues that prevent the motor from receiving power, or mechanical problems that hinder the motor's ability to turn the auger.

Symptoms of a bad Ice Auger Gear Motor include:

  • The ice dispenser not working or dispensing ice very slowly.
  • A humming or grinding noise coming from the ice dispenser mechanism.
  • Ice not being dispensed at all, despite there being ice in the bin.

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Ice Auger Gear Motor (Part Number: OEM18019881)

Sailyoyo for Model Number gs6shaxllo1

The indoor ice dispenser does not dispense. I see the info about checking the switch and the power in the harness to the motor. It is my sister in law's ice maker and she lives 2 1/2 hours away and she doesn't have anybody with any repair knowledge. I removed the auger motor and brought it home with me. Is there a way to test the motor itself to see if it is the motor? It is part #2188869. can only find continuity between pins 6 and 7. I hate to order all the parts when it may only be the motor. Can I hook power up to the motor and see if it runs? Which pins do I use? Thank you.

Jerry, To remove the auger motor you will pull out the bin and remove 3 screw holding the auger housing in place. Once screws are removed then you will pull out the auger housing and disconnect the harness that plugs into the wall. You will need to take the coupler off which is threaded so if you grab the shaft with channel locks and tap it to loosen it to take it off. Take out the screws holding in the motor and replace.

I am trying to access the auger drive motor in the door and remove the ice bin and can only find 2 ....1/4 hex bolts that hold down the drive gear for ice bucket... how do I remove the cover to motor? since there is no access underneath i am guessing there is a way to take off top after removing drive gear...also under the drive gear the shaft feels sloppy and moves around quite a bit..is this normal? Cannot find any infor on getting access to motor and don't want to damage or break plastic trying to get in the wrong way.. I believe it takes part # PS968755 or replacement with 2188869. Please advise me on this issue... I am pretty sure the drive is bad since when Ice lever is pushed the chute door opens but no motor and no crushed ice either...thanks

Hello Stephen. Lay in the floor with the freezer door open and look upward and you will see the screws and the cover for the auger motor. Remove that cover and you can access the motor in the door.

Hello Hank. This is an issue caused by the door liner being made of plastic. You see, the issue is caused by the plastic door liner changing shape by a small amount and this makes the shaft too short. Believe me, this steel shaft cannot strip. When the motor is setting effectively further away, this makes the shaft slip because it isn't meshing fully. I remove the two 1/4 inch hex headed screws and set the plastic "keeper" and spring aside. Pull the shaft up, out of the hole, (you can grab it with needle nosed pliers). Wrap electrical tape, sticky side out, around itself about 20 times or so and shove the wad of tape into the bottom end of the shaft. It may take a few trys to get the length right, but when you get it right, the shaft will mesh on both ends and it will dispense again. This is one of two ways to correct this issue. The other one is to replace the freezer door assembly.

Hello Tom. If there is power to the motor, and it does not run, you will need to replace the motor in the unit.

Ted for Model Number WPL part number 2188869

Ice Dispenser motor does not work. There is no sound from the motor when dispenser button is engaged. However, the ice dispenser door slowly shuts when dispenser button is released. Water button dispenser button works and light can be turned on. The new motor I ordered and installed does not work after installation. I have multi-meter, but am unsure how to test power to motor connection. Where do I go next to identify problem. Could the motor still be the problem or is the problem upstream from the motor? Please advise on what to do next. Thank you!

Ted, You will want to pull the dispenser cover off and look where the switch is located for the ice dispenser. Push the lever and see if it is making contact. If the switch moves in its location then the bracket will need to be replaced. If there is a control board on the bracket then you will want to look for warping on the ice dispenser side. If warped you will need to replace the bracket which comes with the control board.
