The Gearcase Oil Seal is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This seal is located in the gearcase, preventing oil from leaking out while ensuring the internal components are properly lubricated. The kit contains two plastic seals that slide over the shaft to create a tight oil barrier.

Causes of a bad oil seal can include wear and tear over time, exposure to high friction and heat, or accidental damage during maintenance. A faulty oil seal can lead to oil leaks, which may cause further damage to the gearcase and other components.

Symptoms of a bad gearcase oil seal include:

  • Oil leaks underneath the washer
  • Loud noises during operation
  • Washer not spinning or agitating properly
  • Visible wear or damage to the seal

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Gearcase Oil Seal (Part Number: OEM9130749)

Richard for Model Number LAX5578XTWO

Oil leaking. Transmission seal diagnosis, bought new seal from an Appliance Store. It is just like the seal you sell, but more expensive. Problem, the seal I removed was only 1 black piece and the new seal is 2 seals in the package. The store I bought it from does not know why. So I installed both seals but another leak occurred, should I only have installed the black seal and not the little seal that came with it? I'm going to take it apart again and see where the oil is coming from.

Richard, If you look at our website at the part 285352 there are 3 pieces to the seal. The large seal goes in first, the middle piece would then go in and then the smaller ring will go into the second piece. This should be how it is installed.

Hello Christopher. 285352 is the seal that the coupler shaft goes through. You remove it by taking the gear box apart, then remove the shaft and tap it out of the body.

Hello Ruralrev, The transmission seal 285352 can be changed out. To remove the drive shaft you have to remove the internal workings of the transmission and it will just lift out.

John, the only other part you will need is a sealer WP285195 to seal the casing top to the gearcase housing. Otherwise, as long as your careful, and don't damage any of the other parts. Thanks

Hello Richard. If there is oil under there, it has most likely came from the transmission 3360629. There is no seals to replace on these transmissions. They only sell them as an assembly. Hope this helps.

Kimounten, you will only need to use the one that fits your transmission. This is a kit that will work on different transmissions. Thanks.
