However now the igniter comes on properly and then the gas comes on but does not ignite quickley . infact the gas continues for over a minute and then lights with a dramatic large ball of fire . Why is the flame not lighting earlier is there a need to adjust the fuel air port ?

1 Answer Sean, Test for 3.2-3.6 vac at the gas safety valve with the igniter turned on. If the voltage is there, you have a bad safety valve. If the voltage is low, you have a weak igniter and the igniter will need to be replaced. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3.
