The Push To Start Switch is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. It is the interface between the user and the dryer, initiating the drying cycle when pressed. This switch is essential for the safe and efficient operation of the dryer, ensuring that it starts only when the button is deliberately pressed, thereby preventing accidental start-ups.

Causes of a bad Push To Start Switch can include electrical failures within the switch mechanism, wear and tear from repeated use, or damage from spills or moisture exposure.

Symptoms of a bad Push To Start Switch include:

  • The dryer not starting when the button is pressed
  • The need to press the button multiple times to start the dryer
  • The dryer starting without the button being pressed

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Chris, Did you move the dryer ? you may have accidentally damaged the igniter, and you're sure you turn the gas valve to the open position. Check and make sure you didn't kink or restrict the exhaust vent as well. Try this, remove the 1X1 in. square plastic cover from the front panel, and start the dryer. Using the "peep hole" observe, that the igniter glows, then fades and the gas ignites and the dryer heats. Let us know what you see, and we can get you going from there.

Dave, You forgot to attach the model number. But , as best we can tell, there should be four(4) wires to the start switch. The blue wire to the timer, should be on the top horizontal terminal, the blue wire to the motor, on the top vertical terminal, the pink/black wire to the neutral line, on the middle vertical terminal, and the tan wire to the signal buzzer on the bottom vertical terminal.
