The Push To Start Switch is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. It is the interface between the user and the dryer, initiating the drying cycle when pressed. This switch is essential for the safe and efficient operation of the dryer, ensuring that it starts only when the button is deliberately pressed, thereby preventing accidental start-ups.

Causes of a bad Push To Start Switch can include electrical failures within the switch mechanism, wear and tear from repeated use, or damage from spills or moisture exposure.

Symptoms of a bad Push To Start Switch include:

  • The dryer not starting when the button is pressed
  • The need to press the button multiple times to start the dryer
  • The dryer starting without the button being pressed

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Push To Start Switch (Part Number: OEM18045810)

Dewayne for Model Number MED5770TQ0

My electric dryer will not work when on and off switch is pressed. You can hear the timer and know that unit is getting power. I removed the switch and tested the contacts. I am showing continuity or is it resistance of .5 on my multimeter. I then press the button on the switch (#W10117655) and nothing happens on the meter, reading stays at .5, does this mean that the contacts are open and will not close when pressing the button. I am assuming that is the case and that the switch is bad. Please advise. Thanks, Dewayne

Jared for Model Number WED4800XQ

My Whirlpool dryer is barely over one year old and last week it stopped working. I found that when I push the start button it runs as normal unless I stop pressing the button, then it shuts off. For now we have just been leaning a weight on the start button so we can dry clothes until we can fix it. When we do this, everything works as normal. Heat works, drum spins, dryer cycle timer moves. After some research it sounds like the push-to-start switch is faulty. I plan on getting a multi-meter to test this before I purchase any parts, but would this be the most logical place to start for these symptoms? Thank you for your help.

Hello Jared. Test the switch and see if it is good. If so, then the issue is the motor on the unit, and you will need to replace the motor.
