For Whirlpool Compressor Start Relay (Part Number: OEM18114849)

Buzz for Model Number GXCF05D

Earlier today I asked about a compatible starter relay for a 8EA403. Someone cross ref'd and gave me pn 2262185. Thank you for that. My question now is whether you have ever seen a starter relay as bad if the contacts are not burned up and the PTC pill is intact and measuring the correct resistance at nominal temp. Do the PTC Pills lose their functionality over time maybe or do they not respond correctly when heated with current flow. My windings on my compressor seem to check out ok but the starter relay seems to be ok too. Hate to spend $30+ on a part not knowing for sure it is cause of my problem. Is it possible that my compressor windings could be measuring ok when checked with meter but when power is applied they are shorting out after heating up. It appears to me that the symptom is a bad starter relay but have not seen that happen before without the starter relay having burn marks on the contacts at some point. Thanks again!

Hello Buzz. Yes, they can be bad and appear to be good. If you order it and try it and it does not fix the issue, then the compressor is bad. You can return the part if it is not needed.

Hello Keith. Access the compressor and disconnect the power to the unit. Remove the cover off the side of the compressor and pull off the old relay. Now put the wires off the old relay onto the correct terminals on the new relay and slide it onto the prongs of the compressor of the unit.

Mike, The new relay having 4 blades will not be an issue. You would just connect to the same 2 locations as the original relay.

Ayoub, You would have to find out if it is the correct BTU output. We do not have information about BTU output available. You will also want to make sure that they both take the same type of refrigerant and have the same tubing connections.

Hello Brian, Under the control panel where the thermostat is there should be a hole. Inside hole is a gear that you can turn. Using a flat blade screwdriver turn the dial and if unit comes on then you need to replace the defrost timer W10822278. If the unit still does not turn on then you need to check to see if you are getting power to the thermostat. If you are getting power to thermostat but unit is not coming on then you need new thermostat. There should be 120vac to the thermostat WP2204605. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Kate for Model Number 106.56534400

Refrigerator just turned off and panel was black. I turned it on and seemed to have trouble staying on and would turn off and panel would go black again. The ice maker didn't seem to be making ice as before and the issue above happened again. I turned the ice maker off and no problems for about two weeks. Now the refrigerator turning off despite not having the ice maker on but, today I could hear it trying to come on but, would stop. It is presently running. I was wondering if this problem could be the board kit or thermostat?? Or something else??
