Causes of damage to the door balance spring can include normal wear and tear from frequent use, corrosion due to moisture and detergent exposure, or mechanical failure from excessive force being applied to the door.

Symptoms of a bad Door Balance Spring include:

  • The dishwasher door falling open too quickly or with too much force
  • Difficulty in keeping the door open or having it snap shut unexpectedly
  • A noticeable difference in the effort required to open or close the dishwasher door

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Freddyz for Model Number KUDS02SRSS4

My Kitchen Aid dishwasher door used to sithappily in the 2-inch open position. One day last week there was a "bang-sproing" sound, and now the door falls to the full open position. Figuring that the door spring mechanism had broken, I call the repair guy. He tested the door weight, and showed me that it did not quite fall freely. He also opened the toe panel, and showed me with a flashlight that both springs and cables were intact. He had no explanation for why the door would no longer stay in the 2-inch open position, but declared that it was normal. Where do I go from here?

Hello Freddyz. You will need to order and replace the door balance link kit 8194001 on the unit. It is not working properly.

Hello Dennis, You can use the model number on the units' I.D. tag to look up the parts explosion. There will either be a broken spring, link, or string/cable, (depending on the model). It is advisable to remove the kick panel to see what part is needed before ordering parts.
