Manufacturer Part Number: WP7403P279-60

This igniter switch operates the burner lighter so the cooktop sparks and lights a gas burner when you press the lighter control. Replacing a faulty switch restores consistent ignition and reliable burner starting. What it does:

  • Sends the ignition spark to the burner when the lighter/push-button is pressed.
  • Replaces a worn, sticky, or unresponsive lighter switch that prevents consistent sparking.
  • Common symptoms it can address: no spark from the lighter, intermittent sparking, or a button that fails to activate ignition.
  • Interfaces with the existing lighter mechanism and wiring to restore normal ignition function.
What's included: One igniter switch. Install notes:
  • Disconnect power (unplug) and shut off the gas supply before starting any work.
  • Access typically requires removing the cooktop or control panel; use appropriate hand tools and keep track of fasteners.
  • Avoid touching electrical contacts and confirm wiring matches the original during reassembly.

For Whirlpool Igniter Switch (Lighter Switch) (Part Number: OEM18033888)

Mike for Model Number MGR5729ADW

Maytag MGR5729ADW range, three of the four burners work fine. When the knob is turned for the problem-burner, it does emit gas but does not spark or click (except on very rare occasions) so does not light. None of the other burners spark/click when the problem-burner's knob is turned. Turning any of the other three knobs makes all of the burners spark/click, including the problem-burner. Turning the problem-burner knob so that it is emitting gas and then turning one of the other 3 knobs on will cause the problem-burner to spark and light the gas coming out of it. Seem like just one knob is not sending electricity. What replacement part name & number would correct this problem? Thanks for your help

Mike, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty igniter switch. You can test the switch for continuity in lite position. If there is no continuity then the part is faulty and would need to be replaced.

Laura, you may want to test the spark module [12001596]. With the gas turned off to the stove, you can test the spark module for voltage. If the spark module is receiving 120VAC at the tan wire continuously when a switch is set to the ignite position, it should be sending voltage to the ignitors causing a spark. As it is an intermittent issue, more than likely the spark module is the issue.

Sam, As far as the differences in the parts, it would appear that where the knob would stop would be different. As for how the part comes, it will come one part per package and the wires will unplug from the original and plug into this part.

Hello George, Remove the knobs and the screws holding the control panel on the unit. There will be three or four screws under the control panel that you can see when you open the door and look up. The screws located under the knobs will have to be removed also. Some models have a screw or two on the end of the control panel. When you remove the control panel, the switches are easily accessible.

Bob L for Model Number Magic Chef gas range model 7458xta

The right front burner will not lite when the knob is turned to lite. I do hear and smell gas but there is no clicking sound that the igniter is working. When I turn any of the other burners to lite and I have the knob for the right front burner in the hi position, the right front burner lites (I know when the igniter is energized, it sparks at all 4 burners). I thnk the igniter switch for this burner is bad. What do you think?
