The Vacuum Break is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines, designed to prevent the siphoning of water back into the machine once it has been drained. This part ensures that dirty water does not re-enter the wash drum, maintaining the cleanliness of the wash cycle and protecting the integrity of the clothes being washed.

A malfunctioning Vacuum Break can lead to various issues, including inefficiencies in water use, prolonged or ineffective wash cycles, and even the risk of mildew or odors developing from standing water.

Symptoms of a bad Vacuum Break include:

  • Water siphoning back into the tub after the spin cycle
  • Unusual noises coming from the washing machine during or after the drain cycle
  • Clothes being wetter than usual at the end of the cycle, indicating incomplete draining
  • Potential leaks or water buildup at the back of the washing machine

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Hello Libby. As long as you drain all the water from the unit to prevent parts from freezing and busting, it does not matter. If not, then parts will freeze and bust on the unit.

Hello. See if there is power coming to the water valve. If so, and the unit does not bring in cold water, and the screens are not clogged, then replace the water valve on the unit.

Paul, You will want to pull and check the clutch for wear. If the clutch looks good then the issue is in the gearcase which would need to be replaced part number 3360629.

Gary for Model Number Whirlpool Washer Dryer Combo LTE6234AW1

I have a Whirlpool Washer Dryer Combo LTE6234AW1. The water seems to leak when water is first loading into the washer. I first thought it was coming from the main water hoses and replace those, but this was not the case. I then replaced the water inlet valve, but that was not the problem. The only 2 things left that I can think of, it is the vacuum break or the hose that connects the vacuum break to the water inlet value. Any suggestion on how to determine this is so I don't have to buy any more parts than I need to. Thank you, Gary

Gary, The vacuum break WP3360977 is the more likely issue, It is possible for the flume to get disslodged, or deformed and cause a leak. and you also want to make sure the tub assembly is not off center, or too far forward, allowing water to splash on the tub cover and leak.

Hello Rich. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the lid switch WP3949238 may be bad on the unit. Check and see if it is broke. If so, it will cause the washer not to spin or drain out the water. Hope this helps.

Hello Israel. Check and make sure the lid switch 3949247V is good on the unit. If not, it will cause the problems you are having. Disconnect the power to the unit. Remove the two screws in the back corners of the control panel securing the control panel. Pull the control panel forward and flip it backwards. Next unplug the lid switch and remove the two brass colored clips securing the cabinet to the back wall using a flat blade screwdriver to pry them out. Pull on the front of the cabinet and slide the cabinet off the frame of the washer. You can now access and replace the lid switch 3949247V. Reinstall in reverse order. Hope this helps.
