The Whirlpool High Limit Thermostat is an OEM component for Whirlpool dryers, designed to prevent the dryer from overheating by shutting off the heat when the dryer reaches a certain temperature. This safety mechanism is crucial for preventing fires and maintaining the longevity of your dryer.

Symptoms of a bad High Limit Thermostat include:

  • Clothes taking longer than usual to dry
  • Dryer not producing any heat
  • Overheating of the dryer exterior

These issues may arise due to a malfunctioning thermostat, which can occur from a buildup of lint and debris blocking proper airflow, a faulty heating element that causes the dryer to overheat, or wear and tear over time.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models, ensuring a wide range of applicability and reliability for maintaining your dryer's performance.

Gil for Model Number Maytag DG612 Series 05 SN 252995 VJ

Hello, DG612 Series 05 SN 252995 VJ Where can I find a wiring diagram or schematic for a DG612 or any other gas dryer of similar configuration. I suspected the scheme is consistent across all “brands” and models. This would sure make it simpler to understand what the interlocks logic is for the dryer. I too am having a problem with the temperature control of my dryer. First the dryer failed on the “more”/”less” dry cycle. The “timer” stopped advancing so the low cycling 304475 Thermostat L140 - 20F sensor was replaced. The problem was solved. Now I am having a similar problem again but this time there is little or no heat in the dryer as opposed to full capacity hot before. and we’re back to a pure timed cycle again. I opened the burner observation porthole and observed the following: 1 the dryer called for heat 2 the igniter heated up and glowed bright orange/yellow 3 The gas Solenoid clicked open allowing the flame to come on 4 The flame stayed on for approximately 5 seconds then the solenoid tripped out and shut off the gas. 5 The ambient temp in the dryer was only slightly warmed and it continued to run. 6 After a short lapse of time the igniter actuated again and glowed, then repeated steps 2,3&4 7 This continued over and over. Hence the warm dryer and very long drying cycle plus the high temp timer limit not advancing. 8 Per previous recommendations on this site I replaced the two coils on the valve assembly. 1 two Prong and 1 three prong (AP3094251 (279834)) 9 The problem continues steps 2,3&4 10 I watched for a few cycles of flame on and out and tried a jumper across Dryer high limit thermostat. L220-40F (AP4036956) after the flame came on (step 3 above) and the flame held. When I removed the alligator clip from one terminal the solenoid closed and the flame went out. I’m not sure what the logic is but a previous response was that the Flame sensor AP2910747 (338906) is bad. I ordered and received the igniter AP3109449 (4391996) and flame sensor. So the next step would be to replace the Flame Sensor. If that fails should I then replace the igniter or the High limit thermostat (AP4036956 ) ? Thanks

Hello Gil. Try to run a cycle with the unit disconnected from the vent tube. If you notice that the unit runs fine, you will have to make sure to clean out the dryer vent tube. Thanks!

Hello Henry. Check and make sure the igniter in in the flame. If so, you could have a bad flame sensor WP338906, not opening when the flame lites. Hope this helps.

Hi David. You might want to take a look at the coils before you replace the high limit thermostat. The coil kit contains both primary and secondary coils 279834. You can refer to some of the prior answers posted for the test procedures. Thanks!
