A high-limit thermostat that stops the dryer's heating circuit if internal temperatures get too high, helping prevent overheating and protecting heating components. Replaces a failed high-limit thermostat to restore overheat protection. What it does

  • Opens the heating circuit when dryer temperature exceeds the thermostat set point to prevent overheating.
  • Commonly related symptoms: dryer runs but produces little or no heat, dryer gets unusually hot, or the thermal cutoff repeatedly fails.
  • Works as part of the dryer's temperature-safety system to protect heating elements, fuses, and internal wiring.
What's included
  • One high-limit thermostat
Install notes
  • Disconnect power before accessing the dryer and work only after panels are cool.
  • Take a photo or label wires before removal to ensure correct reconnection.
  • Test the thermostat for continuity with a multimeter to confirm failure before replacing.
  • If other safety devices (thermal fuse, cycling thermostat, element) show symptoms, inspect and test those components too.

Hello Terry. It sounds like the venting system is clogged or kinked. You will need to check the vent and clean it out. Be sure and clean the vent pipe and the dryer air duct assembly. If the air flow is not good, the unit will retain moist air causing the clothes not to dry. Try running the unit with the vent unhooked from the back of the dryer and see if the dryer works properly. If the vent is good, check and see if the high limit WP53-0771 open, and then does not close. If so, you will need to replace the high limit. Hope this helps.
