Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Refrigerator Water Inlet Valve (Part Number: OEM18059829)

Hello Graeme, and thank you for your question. If the ice maker is overfilling, the water valve WP12544124 should be tested for 120 Volts AC when the ice maker is calling for water, or listened to for a humming sound. If there’s no voltage present at the valve during an overfill—or the valve is not humming—then the valve itself is likely stuck open and would be the cause of the failure.

Sam, Thank you for your question. It is odd that the valve would go out when flushing but is possible. There is no known issues as far as we are aware.

Replaced the W10341329 dual inlet water valve bought locally due to bad solenoids. The dispenser water valve sends water to the ceiling ice maker overflowing the mold when operating the dispenser. The ice maker water valve sends 5 oz of water to the dispenser when calling for mold fill. Both valves are operated at the same time when either calls for water. The ice maker makes and dumps ice although smaller but you have to catch the 5 oz coming out of the dispenser each time. Seems like the 5 oz should be going to the ice maker instead.

Hello At Wits End, thank you for contacting Appliance Parts Pros. You will need to replace the unit wire harness [W11401475] in the machine compartment at the back of the unit where the compressor is. There is a diode pack built into that harness that isolates voltage to the valves, it has gone bad and is sending voltage to both valves when either is calling for water.

The icemaker is not getting water. The water dispenser works fine. We had the dual water valve replaced about 2 months ago. The ice maker worked fine for about a month. When I do the diagnostic I can get water into the ice maker but it won't fill with water on its own. The icemaker does cycle; I can hear it but there is no ice due to the water issue. We turned the ice maker off and ordered the valve for the lower unit but I am not sure that is the problem since the water dispenser operates.

Gail, This would most likely be an issue with the icemaker since it will fill with water during test mode.

Jeff, Using the tech sheet packaged with your refrigerator I would suggest running the diagnostics. The temperature for the ice maker to cycle is below 10°f. The diagnostics will likely help you to determine if you have an ice maker issue or a cooling issue.

Gilbert, based on the information provided, it sounds like there is a communication failure between the user interface W11089931 and the main control W10843055. As the unit was able to dispense water in a diagnostic mode, the valve has been verified as being operable. Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not provide testing information to identify where the communication failure would be. However, since it will work in testing mode, it would be likely that the failure is in the main control.

Tina, Thanks for the question!!! This could be a filter issue. Make sure your filter is new or possibly bypass it by removing it. After that check to make sure the voltage at the valve is constant when you press the switch. If voltage is constant it could be a bad valve. If voltage is not constant then this could be a control board issue.

Gavin, After removing the 2 screws you will use a screwdriver and pop the cover off in which there will be screws under it to remove as well.
