Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Refrigerator Water Inlet Valve (Part Number: OEM18059829)

Andrew, it would be recommended that the wires to the ice maker are inspected for any loose connections or pinched spots. If this is good, then the failure would most likely be in the main control W11224256.

Mike for Model Number 59672383411

Water dispensing has slowly deteriorated over the last 5 years. It still comes out but almost barely. We have replaced the water filter but it had no effect. Ice production is very slow now as well. I am not sure if it deteriorated at the same pace as the water flow but it is so bad now that we use ice trays to make ice. I looked in the back of the fridge where the water comes in and I continuity tests that valve. It seems to work (it is not completely dead). The water tube leaves this valve and re-enters the fridge through the back at the location of the filter. I will have to remove the celling covers to access the second valve in order to test it. How do I test these valves to determine if they are the cause of the water constriction vs not working at all? I can't find any technical documentation for this fridge anywhere including behind the bottom front grill.

Mike, as both the ice maker and the water dispenser are not allowing proper water flow, it would be recommended that the water flow going from the main inlet valve W10865826 into the refrigerator section is tested. This can be done by removing the tubing going into the refrigerator and aiming the valve into a cup or pitcher and having the water dispenser activated. If there is low water coming through, the main inlet would need to be replaced if there is not a pinched water supply line.

Shane, Have someone press the water dispenser while you check for 120VAC at the water valve. If you have voltage there then replace the water valve.Should be a violet and white wire. No voltage and your control board will need to be replaced. W10184871 Unfortunately that control is no longer available.

Hello Greg, the ice maker is controlled by the main control board, the board is detecting a problem and has disabled the ice maker. You need to run the service test mode test #56 and see what the fault code is first. The test sheet (tech sheet) is located either under the top hinge cover of the right side fresh food door or under/behind the bottom front grill is a plastic bag.

Alex, it would be recommended that the water reservoir W11168758 and the tubing are inspected for any cracks and that the dual valve WPW10341329 is inspected. Either of these can cause the symptoms shown as it can allow air into the tubing which can break the vacuum needed to prevent water from dripping out of the dispenser as well as leak in the refrigerator.

Puzzled for Model Number WRX988SIBM03

I have a Whirlpool refrigerator model # WRX988SIBM03 and I have replaced the ice maker, the ice maker fill tube heater and the front fascia as this piece plugs into the fill tube heater. I also installed new air and water filters and cleaned the condenser coils located at the bottom of the front of the refrigerator. The ice maker is either freezing up or failing to fill with water as it sometimes makes tiny ice chips. This is an intermittent problem as the ice maker will work fine for periods up to 12-18 hours at a time. To get it to resume making ice I raise the fascia door and use my hair dryer on lowest setting after initiating diagnostic test 45. After a few minutes I press S3 until I get to 03 to fill the ice maker. Once I get the ice maker to fill I press S1 & S2 at the same time and hold for 3 seconds to cancel the water fill test (#45).

Hello Puzzled, the main control board controls all of the ice maker operations in this model, since you are able to enter and use the Test mode, run test 56 and check for any ice maker faults codes first, NOTE, do not unplug power to the ref as it will erase any codes.

Hello Bill, on your model, the dual water valve is located in the ref ceiling. To access it unplug ref, under the icebox fascia insert a flat blade screwdriver into the 3 slots and pop off the fascia panel, disconnect the heater harness, then remove the water filter cartridge, locate and remove the two screws from under the water filter door. Then use a flat screwdriver and pry out the ref ceiling cover starting from the right side of the ice box and pull down and out to disengage the cover snaps. Disengage rear snap. Slide the water reservoir cover forward and disconnect the LED light harness. Remove the 3 front hex head screws, pull out the housing and access the dual water valve that is on top of the housing.

Starting from the ice box side, place a flat head screw driver between the water reservoir cover and refrigerator compartment liner creating enough room to place your hand between the two. 8. Working from left to right, slide your hand between the water reservoir cover and refrigerator compartment liner to disengage the snaps. 9. Disengage rear left snap. 10. To remove the water reservoir cover, slide it forward and disconnect LED lighting connector. Water Reservoir and Valve aSSembly 11. Remove 3, ¼” hex head screws 12. Amber, For this issue it sounds as though the water valve WPW10341329 would need replaced. If the filter inlet hose is also leaking then it will need replaced and is part number W11209890.
