For Whirlpool Water Valve (Part Number: OEM18016395)

Michael L. for Model Number SBD21VPE

My issue started with a leaking primary valve, #12544001. When I replaced this, I had low water flow to the ice maker. Since I have replaced the secondary valve, #12544101 and then the ice maker, #D7824706Q and the problem still occurs. I have now traced the flow restriction back to the primary valve and found that the brown coil (to the icemaker is not opening). It is getting full voltage from the icemaker and I have verified that both the power and neutral lines through the harness to the valve have less than 1 ohm resistance. The valve hums when the ice maker attempts to energize it. I bought a second new part and it behaves the same, as does the old leaky one. I have found that if I take the connector (brown and white) from the ice maker and connect it to the blue (water) coil on primary valve 12544001, I get adequate flow to the ice maker. I have confirmed this both by manually initiating a harvest cycle and by jumping test points L & V on the IM module. Brown coil resistance is 193 ohms and blue coil resistance is 252 ohms. Neutral terminal (white) in valve connector has less than 1 ohm resistance to the refeigerator power cord. I’m stumped. Can you help?

Michael, With what you have checked and the fact that there is voltage but the valve not opening would indicate that the water valve is faulty. It is possible that you received defective valves.

Tom, The video is to give you a general idea of installing the part. You will connect the water supply line to the metal threaded fitting. You will then connect the plastic water tube with the threaded fitting to the threaded part of the water valve body.

Hello Robert. If you can turn off icemaker and stop the water, you will need to replace the icemaker. If you have to turn off the water, you will need a new water valve.

Chip for Model Number ARS2667AW

My icemaker is only partially filling the tray the ice freezes in. The tube to the icemaker is clear. I disconnected the inlet hose at the back of the refrig and am getting good water flow there. I also am getting good water flow to my water dispenser in the refrig door. I am guessing one of the water inlet valves is not working right. Is there one that is timed for filling the icemaker tray? Is it the one after the water filter or the first one that the water line to the refrig hooks up to? Is there any further troubleshooting I should do before ordering the part? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Chip, On your refrigerator, it could by either valve that has the fault WP12544001 primary valve( where the inlet water connects) and the secondary WP12544101 where the water tube to the icemaker attaches. The best option is to replace both valves. If you're only going to replace one valve, then replace the secondary valve.

Hello upser95. Check and make sure the filter is good. If so, then the water valve may be the issue with the unit.

Hi Calvin. When you replace the water filter, you only hold the actuator pad a few seconds at a time to cycle the air from the lines or the tank. It sounds like the plastic water valve overheated and fried. Use a volt/ohm meter to check the water valve coil for resistance and not open or shorted to the casing. Water valve part # WP12544001. Water Valve - "Y" Tube is discontinued, the old valve has a double water outlet, must change to this single outlet and eliminate the "Y" Tube. Thank You.
