Water inlet valve assembly includes: Hot and cold inlet valves, thermistor, vacuum break and wiring harness.

The Water Inlet Valve Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines, designed to control the flow of hot and cold water into the washer. This component ensures that water enters the washing machine at the correct times during the wash cycle, filling the tub to the appropriate levels for efficient cleaning.

Causes for a Water Inlet Valve Assembly to fail include sediment buildup from hard water, which can block the valves, wear and tear on the solenoids over time, and electrical failures that prevent the valves from opening or closing properly.

Symptoms of a bad Water Inlet Valve Assembly include:

  • The washing machine does not fill with water, or it fills very slowly.
  • Water continues to drip into the tub even when the washer is off
  • The washer fills with the wrong temperature of water

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

For Whirlpool Water Inlet Valve Assembly (Part Number: OEM18047292)

Dawei for Model Number ATW4475XQ0

I have an Admiral washer ATW4475XQ0 The tub cannot stop filling water causing the tub to overflow and it's happening ONLY when it's hot water. In fact, the inlet valve keeps filling water even after I pull the power plug. So initally I thought it's the problem with inlet valve. But, once I set it to cold water, everything starts working fine. Inlet valve has no issue turning off water after I pull the plug. So I'm confused why this is like that? And is it the problem with my inlet valve or with my warm water pressue?

1 Answer

Dawei, Based on the information provided it is likely a valve issue if the water continues to flow with no power to the machine.

Herman, this could be caused by a leaking water valve WPW10144820 due to a cracked section. Inspecting the water valve would be recommended for verification.

Mark for Model Number wtw5600vq0

Whirlpool washer model number is wtw5600vq0. Just put new water valve w10144820 into the Whirlpool washer. Exact replacement part. Very easy swap. Now the warm and cool water cycles to the mix after about 15 seconds while only on the warm and cool setting. Hot and cold work fine. Also the new rubber lines shake at times as valves are adjusting and cutting off hot/cold water on cool/warm setting. Where is the water temp sensor? Is it on the water valve? Checked and rechecked plug and all the plug prongs. Very Hot and very cold work fine. Is temp sensor separate so it can be replaced? Is this normal way hot cold water is mixed on this model?

1 Answer

Hello Mark, the temperature sensor is built into the valve assembly, depending on the wash water temperature setting and the temperatures of the hot/cold water supply the Automatic Temperature Control will cycle between hot/cold valves as needed.

Greg, Sounds like you have a problem with the automatic temp switch.WPW10184148 When voltage is applied to fill the unit it goes into this switch and the switch determines what valve to open.

Hello Tom, I'm sorry but the water valve screens are not listed as available parts individually. You would need to order the water valve to get these or remove them and install the fill hose filter screens 285452A in the water supply hoses. If you do this be sure to install these with the tip of the screen cones pointing toward the water pressure.

Neal for Model Number wtw5300vwz

I have a Whirlpool washer model number WTW5300vwz. When the water temperature is set to hot, during filling the water comes out warm and sometimes switches over to hot for a few moments. I have changed the water inlet valve assembly with no change. I'm wondering if the washer does not allow straight hot water into it. My wife says the water used to get much hotter. Should the water temp going into the washer be as hot as the temperature of the hot water heater?

1 Answer

Neal Here is an exerpt from the features guide of your unit. There will not be straight hot water coming in except as momentary bursts. Temperature Control You should select a wash temperature based on the type of fabric and soils being washed. For best results, use the warmest wash water safe for the fabric. Follow garment label instructions. The Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) (on some models), electronically senses and maintains a uniform water temperature by regulating incoming hot and cold water. n Even in Cool wash, some warm water is let into the washer to maintain a minimum temperature. NOTE: In wash water temperatures colder than 60°F (15.6°C), detergents do not dissolve well. Soils can be difficult to remove. Some fabrics can retain wear wrinkles and have increased pilling (the formation of small lint-like balls on the surface of garments).

Jam10, The part number for the water valve on your unit will be W11210459 and you will want to check to see if the screens are clogged on the valve before ordering one.

Lee, For this issue the most likely cause for filling when not in use would be a control board since the water valve has been replaced.
