The Water Inlet Valve is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It controls the flow of water into the washer, ensuring the right amount of water enters the tub for each cycle. This valve connects to the water supply and is activated by the washing machine's control board to allow water to flow in and out as needed.

Over time, the water inlet valve can become faulty due to mineral deposits, wear and tear from constant use, or damage to the valve components. If the valve fails, it can cause issues with water flow, affecting the washing machine's performance.

Symptoms of a bad Water Inlet Valve include:

  • No water entering the washer
  • Slow filling or no water flow
  • Washer not filling to the proper level
  • Washer overflowing

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Mathew, With water dripping into the drum this would be a faulty water inlet valve and will need to replace the valve.

Derek, This issue would have nothing to do with the water valve. It would be recommended to have your water tested and use steel braided hoses in place of rubber hoses.

Hello Samantha, This does sound like the water valve W10853723 has failed since the LF code indicates a long fill time. You may want to add a screen 285452A in the inlet hoses to help prevent sedimentation and mineral deposits from corrupting the water valve seat. If so, be sure to point the screen towards the water pressure to prevent clogging too soon.

"LF" fault on Maytag Bravos XL washer. Sounds like a solenoid is not operating correctly. Water will dispense into the drum, into the fabric softner and bleach spouts, but do not see any going into the soap spot. Angled control panel down and looked all the wiring and connections and were okay. Did a light tap on all of the solenoids hoping to free which ever one (if any) may be not working. Trying to get more info before I pull the plug and spend money on parts (inlet water valve (that has all of the solenoids attached P/N AP5989759). Really do not want to try and lug this thing down the stairs and out onto the trailer. I do not have the hoses mixed up. Screens are clean. Good water pressure. No water leaks. Any thoughts on where to look?

Lee, It does sound like the water valve will be the issue with the unit not working properly and giving the LF error code. The valve would need to be replaced.

I have noticed that the water filling up the detergent cup has slowed down. The screens were clogged but that didn’t fix the problem. Then I recently get a FL on some loads. I ran diagnostic but couldn’t see any errors. Not sure if it is control board or valve pieces. Water pressure is great coming out of the hoses. I even checked the hoses coming out of the valve and going to different detergent cups and those seemed clean. Thanks for your help.

Ryan, If the valve is getting 120 vac to it but not allowing water in then this will be a faulty water valve.

Chad, You will want to check to see if there would be clogged screens on the water valve. Also check to see if there is power getting to the water valve and see if there is any issue with no power to the valve. If the screens on the valve are clogged then clean out the valve. If the valve is not getting power then this will be an issue with the main control board of the unit. If there is power then this will be a faulty valve.

Carl, For this issue you will want to check to see if there is 120 vac getting to the valve to energize it for the fabric dispenser. If there is not power when it should have it then this will be a bad control board and if there is power then the valve is faulty.
