Amanda refrigerator too warm and its freezer too cold Dennis K. • Pacifica , CA • November 09, 2015
I read the help guide on the AppliancePartsPros.com web site and then decided to test my defrost heater with a volt/ohm meter. I read an open circuit. I then removed the radiant heater element from the refrigerator and see nothing wrong with the element, but the connection on both sides to it, that resemble a spark plug wire to an automotive plug, was corroded to a powder making no electrical connection. I then searched for the replacement part to find that Amana discontinued the part after...

Part Number: WR50X124
This defrost thermostat monitors evaporator temperature and controls power to the defrost heater, shutting it off at the correct point in the cycle. Replacing a failed thermostat helps clear frost and restore stable cooling and airflow.
- Senses evaporator coil temperature in the freezer
- Closes when cold to allow the defrost heater to run; opens as the coil warms to terminate defrost
- Helps prevent excessive frost buildup and maintains proper airflow
- Typical failure signs: heavy frost on the evaporator/back wall, weak airflow, warm fresh-food section, unit runs constantly or never defrosts
What's included: 1 defrost thermostat
- Disconnect power and wear appropriate safety gloves before servicing
- Access the evaporator behind the rear freezer panel; note wire routing and original mounting on the refrigerant tubing
- Install the new thermostat in the same location with firm thermal contact; do not damage coil fins or tubing
- If your model uses spliced leads, use approved connectors and secure all joints; replace all covers before restoring power

- Helps maintain stable temperatures and normal airflow between freezer and refrigerator sections
- Common signs of failure: heavy frost on the back freezer panel, warm refrigerator/cool freezer, fan noise from ice contact, long run times
- Works with the defrost thermostat and control to complete defrost cycles
What's included: 1 defrost heater
- Unplug the refrigerator before service; use caution around sharp evaporator fins
- Access the evaporator behind the freezer's rear panel and fully defrost ice before replacement
- Route wiring exactly as original; avoid kinking or stressing the heating element
- After reassembly, restore power and verify a successful defrost cycle per service procedures

The fan in the lower draw was not working Michael K. • Trinity , FL • February 16, 2025
I replaced the fan and heater element. The replacement was not an exact match. I had to adjust the parts to get the harness to fit the plug was not the correct size. I cut it off and used the existing plug. Not a big deal and everything else fit. Pretty good for a twenty year old replacement. Also the heater element was a different shape but it fit as is.
