This part is a washing machine timer. This is the component that controls the washing machine functions and the length of time for each of the cycles. Signs that the timer has gone bad can vary. For example, the washing machine may only wash but will not spin or drain. It might skip cycles or stall mid-cycle. The washing machine could become stuck on a cycle also. If this is happening, the repair person can check for continuity through the timer motor by using a multimeter. If it measures infinite resistance, the timer will need to be replaced. Unplug the washing machine from the wall before trying to replace this part. The person performing the replacement procedure should wear work gloves for safety during the process.This timer is compatible with washing machines that are manufactured by Kenmore and Whirlpool. Normally I would do a better job of investigating my problem with what others have experienced and then proceed with the cheapest fix first. This time though I just knew it was the timer. Fixing the problem was quite simple. First, I removed the lid assembly (thanks to the diagrams supplied by AppliancePartsPros.com!). Getting the back two screws out was very difficult because I couldn't see them from the front and I could not move the unit out of the enclosed space. After some trial and error, I located the screws which were 5/16 hex head screws and removed them with a MAGNETIC nut driver. Watched on line Video. Only problem was in disconnecting wire "bus" connector from switch. I was unable to remove connector without damaging it. I "jumped" connector to prove switch was faulty. This also allowed my wife to continue to do laundry while part arrived. I ordered a 3 circuit connector, but this was not the correct part.
