In short - I replaced the evaporator fan motor and the evaporator fan blade. The Appliance Parts Pros website was extremely helpful to me. Here's how. 1. Before we replaced the board, my wife tried to replace just the element. We had one we had ordered several years ago when this same thing happened. When that didn't work we replaced the board and could see where the old board was damaged so we figured this was the solution. 1. After hearing a loud noise on the freezer side of unit about halfway up, I started investigating what it could be? My conclusion was evaporator motor or evaporator fan blade. My Frigidaire side by side refrigerator/freezer suffered a catastrophic failure. The symptoms were as follows: 1) Frig not cold 2) No Ice being made in the freezer section 3) Items at the back of the freezer were frozen but items on the door shelves would not freeze. Once I purchased the correct motor it literally took less that 10 minutes from start to finish to replace the motor. After unplugging the refrigerator, I unscrewed two machine screws to remove the cover and unscrewed two machine screws to remove the motor. I removed the old motor from the housing, installed the new motor, reattached the motor to the refrigerator, replaced the cover, and plugged in the refrigerator. Installation was quick and simple. Had a friend who is an appliance repair tech. Replace the evaporator, the heater coil, and the filter/drier. Parts were soldered together and the compressor was put under vacuum. Then, charged with 5 oz. of refrigerant. The freezer works great now! Read more

White Westinghouse refrigerator door was accidentally left open over night when it was humid, and moisture condensed on the interior. In the morning the arc fault circuit breaker was tripped. Tried letting the unit dry out, but it would still trip the breaker as an arc fault. Removed the freezer shelves and back panel, evaporator coils were frozen with ice. Defrosted coil and removed defrost heater connectors, measured no continuity in the heater and ordered a replacement. Also discovered the aluminum retention strap was broken and the heater had slipped down in it's position, ordered and replacement strap. Just missed having decent ice trays. The only ones I could find were either: 1. Expensive 2. Flimsy - only lasted a couple of months 3. Silicone-bottomed that half the compartments leak after a few uses These are the wonderful old fashioned kind that are easy to use and last forever. Just didn’t think I’d find them again! Read more
