Was making a squeaking/squealing on start up Gerald G. • Nashua , NH • March 20, 2016
My GE dryer from the late 80's/early 90's was squealing when it would start up, belt or bearing I was thinking. I found a manual online that covered my model and I watched a video on this site that showed me how to take it all apart, mine was a bit different but the principles were the same. I took it apart and added some quick-disconnects to 2 wires so next time I can take the front panel off easily. When I got to the bearing it looked worn but not bad so I cleaned it and put it back. ...

The clothes dryer heater wasn't heating Craig M. • Rockledge , FL • March 21, 2015
I replaced the heating element supplied by AppliancePartsPros.com. It took me longer than the estimated 30 minutes to an hour cited in the good instructional video. A few things took more time than I had expected:
1. Removing the top of the dryer unit resulted in my breaking off the three plastic tabs that is used to anchor the top to the structure below. In putting it back together, I didn't need those three tabs as the side plastic structure on each side will secure the top to the...

"Squeaking dryer" Bob D. • Scottsdale , AZ • December 13, 2020
A few months back I changed out the "Bearing Slides" on the front side of the drum thinking that would stop the annoying squeaking every time we use the dryer. They were very worn and one was missing. But to my dismay it only lessened it by about 10%. After doing a bit more research I discovered the "Rear Shaft Bracket Assembly" also needed replacement. The tip was worn way down and clearly the source of the noise.
It was actually a very simple repair except for the fact that the key to the...

Amazing story of speed & quality! Ordered on Friday 4pm, had parts in hand on 2pm on Sat, finished repair by 4pm ... 24hrs! The repair video was 100% on target. Replaced the rear drum bearing, front slides/glides, and the belt (cheap insurance!). All parts were exactly as described on APP.com. I (and my wife) couldn't be happier with the repair, and the exceptional service of APP! Do not be timid about trying this repair yourself. Take your time and watch the video. Priceless!

Blower fan had come loose and was hitting the inside of the housing Chris R. • Ridgeland , MS • February 08, 2015
Had to remove the front and top panel on the dryer, disconnect the belt and remove the drum. From there it was two screws to slide out the motor assembly with the fan attached and one bolt to remove the clamp and screw kit holding the fan in place. They kit was worn and was allowing the fan to move forward and back on the motor shaft. Once replaced it took about 5 minutes to reassemble and my dryer now purs like a kitten.

Replaced the motor with a new one, if I can offer any advice about doing this job, make sure to keep track of where each wire goes on the motor and whatever wires need to be disconnected. There are a few good video's online showing how to do this job and can save you a lot of time and frustration.

Not heating normally lower than normal heat Roger P. • Little Rock , AR • February 14, 2016
Replaced the high limit safety thermostat. Ordering was easy, and the part came quickly. The video on the web site was helpful, although I was not able to follow the instructions fully. Unless you have super skinny, long arms, you cannot reach under and around the dryer tub to reach the belt tension arm. I ended up having to remove the side panel of the dryer to remove the belt from the motor. Replacing the thermostat was simple enough. At this point, it seems to have corrected the...

Two baffles had torn out as the screw heads came through the holes Scott B. • Katy , TX • December 21, 2015
I ordered two new baffles and 7 screws. I also ordered 6 large washers. We were running with one baffle held by only 2 of 3 screws. It appears that a repairman in the past had removed the large washers and over time, the screw heads reamed out the hole, causing the baffles to detach and break. In about 15 minutes, I was able to tighten up the existing baffle and add the two new ones. I also added the 6 big washers to help strengthen this to prevent future issues. I no longer have to listen to...

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
Dryer won’t tumble belts keep breaking. Devon Ann B. • Melbourne , FL • March 27, 2021
After replacing the belt less than a year ago, when it broke again we started to think something may be going on with the idler pulley. Ordered a new belt and pulley wheel, only to have the belt break again the very next day. After a call to customer service explaining the situation, they replaced the belt and pulley wheel which were both under warranty, and suggested replacing the arm itself. We also had to replace the interlock switch. Parts arrived quickly. The repair itself took about an...
