Previously, I removed the lower rear cardboard back of the unit and saw the crack in the defrost pan. It was probably damaged when unit was moved using appliance hand truck. Discovered that the old part had broken, preventing the door from leveraging closed into the bearing valley. Metal-on-metal rubbing was also a clue.
Pulled the old piece out of the hole (only the shaft remained) and popped in the new bearing. Took all of 10 minutes, and everything works great now.
