My 10 year old ge washing machine's agitator stopped spinning suddenly Alicia B. • El Mirage , AZ • August 28, 2015
Before buying a new ($1200) washer, I found the trouble shooting guide and decided to check if my problem was a simple fix or a complicated procedure... turns out it was the simple fix. Removing the agitator was the hardest part, it lifted straight up, but took some muscle and a belt for leverage. Then I had to remove one bolt, lift off the damaged part, and put the new part on with the one bolt. Done. Works perfectly.

The agitator drive plate had rusted through in a circle. John R. • Ann Arbor , MI • March 02, 2021
The machine stopped working with a bang. There were chunks of large metal at the bottom. The drive plate had rusted through. My first step was to put a rag in the tub drain hole and save the pump.
Except for grinding/chiseling off a frozen-corroded-rusty solid mass. The repair was rather easy. A couple of channel lock wrenches and a hammer didn't budge it. A monkey wrench will just round it off. You need that 1 11/6" wrench.
The spindle nut was really stuck on there for my 14+ yo washer. I...

Water level shutoff switch did didn't work allowing the washer tub to overfill William H. • Papillion , NE • March 22, 2015
I replaced the water level switch and hose. After removing the hose, I found that it was clogged, and did not allow the water level to be sensed by the switch. A test after the replacement of the parts was successful. While filling the tub, the water shut off at the small, medium, and large levels as indicated by the switch.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
The timer switch came detached from the bracket and the dial slot slipped out of the shaft until i saw the repair video i did not know about the clip that locks the dial to the shaft Jeffery B. • Donalsonville , GA • September 04, 2015
I removed the dial knob and plate as instructed by the video, removed the front panel of the washer to access the switch. I found the plastic molded bracket that the timer rests on to be broken and the tab on the timer where it is attached by a screw to be broken. I ordered a replacement switch, dial and knob. When it arrived I replaced the parts as instructed, but I had to use super glue to hold the new switch in place due to the support tab on the washer panel being broken off. After letting...

Drain hose was leaking Haide H. • Chatham Township , NJ • May 01, 2017
The video was very helpful. the hardest part is getting off old rusted parts. I had to use a hacksaw to remove one of the old clamps. I had to open the bottom of the washing machine to remove of the other clamp. Putting the new parts on was easy. Getting everything apart was a challenge. Putting the new parts on was an easy 5 minute job.

Agitator not agitating no softener dispenser Raymond S. • Haslet , TX • August 17, 2015
Planning to spend hundreds on a new washer and was pleased to discover the agitator coupling was the only thing wrong. Very easy repair. The only additional feature we would have liked was a softener dispenser. Located a GE model of the same genre that used the same coupler and took the leap to get the agitator and dispenser cup for this model (WJRR4170). Replaced the old agitator with new one and dispenser cup. Worked perfectly! We now have a washer with dispenser that works great and saved...

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
Washer would not spin nor adgitate Jeff A. • Stow , OH • June 28, 2015
Motor control board was flashing 4 times, indicating that the mode shifter had an error. I disconnected the mode shifter's wire from the controller and measured the resistance between the 2 leads with an ohmmeter. Since the reading was infinite, that meant that the mode shifter coil or in-line thermal sensor was electrically open, i.e. bad. As this fix is near a complete tear-down of the washing machine, here are a few tips I discovered. 1) the hub nut is difficult to remove and you need a...
