Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ice dispenser wouldn't dispense ice   Chris K. • Felton , DE • April 29, 2025

The auger gearbox shaft had a spot that was stripped of threads which prevented the auger drive from spinning the ice down the chute. I replaced the auger motor/gearbox assembly, the auger drive as it had to be cut off the shaft, and the 3 mount bolts that hold it all in place. Whole job took 30 minutes from start to finish which included cutting off the drive bracket. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ice (broken seal) fizzer light out due to ice then auger motor auger coupler and solenoid cube failure   Damon B. • Tumwater , WA • December 19, 2015

This was a two and half year issue as different things failed at different times. I would get one part, then another would fail. Ultimately, I got to a point where what failed, I hadn't been ordered the part yet. The seal on the freezer door took three bathing's before it plumped up and un-creased. The directions on the box it is shipped in said to heat the seal up in hot water then cool it down with tap water. I didn't need to do that. It took a lot of massaging of the seal, but... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Noisy evaporator fan   Jason L. • Barnegat , NJ • August 02, 2025

The problem was most likely the evaporator fan motor but it could have been a bad blade, loose parts or bad motor mounts. Hard to tell without taking everything apart and inspecting. Since fridge was 17 years old I decided to order the entire evaporator fan assembly as shown in the parts diagram including fan blade, motor brackets, motor, motor mounts, screws, etc. Getting to the assembly involved removing the ice maker unit plus the entire rear inside of the freezer section. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You GE side by side. Fridge side not cooling, freezer side working fine.   Thomas H. • La Mesa , CA • May 19, 2020

Evaporator fan motor in our freezer was bad. Ordered new one with 2 day delivery and had it in 2 days. Thankfully it was very easy to get to from the front of the freezer. There are 3 different options for same motor with different wire harnesses. I bought the cheapest option and then snipped and reconnected the wires to the existing harness. That saved us $50. Still well under an hour from the time I opened the tool box to putting the last tool away. Fridge is now plenty cold even set on 5. . Read more
