This assembly combines the refrigerator's internal water reservoir (tank) with its attached tubing to deliver chilled water to the dispenser. Replace a cracked or leaking tank to restore proper water flow and prevent leaks inside the fresh food compartment. What it does:
- Stores a reserve of water so dispensed water is cooled
- Routes water through the dispenser circuit via the attached tubing
- Typical failure symptoms: slow or no water from the dispenser, leaks or puddles inside the refrigerator, visible cracks or bulging in the tank
- Corrects issues caused by a frozen/split reservoir or brittle tubing
What's included:
- One water tank with attached tubing assembly
Install notes:
- Unplug the refrigerator and shut off the water supply before servicing
- Access is typically behind the lower rear interior panel; remove drawers/shelves as needed
- Note original tube routing; cut tubing square and fully seat push-in fittings to prevent leaks
- Restore water and power, check connections, and dispense water to purge air from the system

Leak in top of water tank Merle M. • Valley Center , CA • August 23, 2014
Installing the tank went quickly. Removed the water filter from the upper compartment to stop water flow to the tank.
Had to remove the two lower drawers (they tilt out of their sliding frames). There is a glass shelf that should be pulled out - it slides out via two notches in the front frame. The water tank is behind a white metal cover held by 4 screws. Keep track of all of the parts including the lip seals from the shelf.
I used two Watts 5/15x5/16 couplers from Lowes for the connections....

Ice dispenser wouldn't dispense ice Chris K. • Felton , DE • April 29, 2025
The auger gearbox shaft had a spot that was stripped of threads which prevented the auger drive from spinning the ice down the chute. I replaced the auger motor/gearbox assembly, the auger drive as it had to be cut off the shaft, and the 3 mount bolts that hold it all in place. Whole job took 30 minutes from start to finish which included cutting off the drive bracket.

Noisy evaporator fan Jason L. • Barnegat , NJ • August 02, 2025
The problem was most likely the evaporator fan motor but it could have been a bad blade, loose parts or bad motor mounts. Hard to tell without taking everything apart and inspecting. Since fridge was 17 years old I decided to order the entire evaporator fan assembly as shown in the parts diagram including fan blade, motor brackets, motor, motor mounts, screws, etc. Getting to the assembly involved removing the ice maker unit plus the entire rear inside of the freezer section. GE side by side. Fridge side not cooling, freezer side working fine. Thomas H. • La Mesa , CA • May 19, 2020
Evaporator fan motor in our freezer was bad. Ordered new one with 2 day delivery and had it in 2 days. Thankfully it was very easy to get to from the front of the freezer. There are 3 different options for same motor with different wire harnesses. I bought the cheapest option and then snipped and reconnected the wires to the existing harness. That saved us $50. Still well under an hour from the time I opened the tool box to putting the last tool away.
Fridge is now plenty cold even set on 5. .
