Torsion Spring
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WR49X10233

The Torsion Spring is an OEM part for GE refrigerators. It is essential for maintaining the proper tension and operation of the refrigerator door. This spring ensures the door closes smoothly and stays securely shut, preventing cold air from escaping and maintaining the appliance’s efficiency.

Causes of a bad torsion spring can include metal fatigue from regular use, corrosion from exposure to moisture, or damage due to excessive force or mishandling. Over time, these factors can weaken the spring, affecting the door’s performance.

Symptoms of a bad Torsion Spring include:

  • Door not staying closed
  • Difficulty in opening or closing the door
  • Door feels loose or unbalanced
  • Unusual noises when operating the door

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ice dispenser motor not working ice auger had a broken blade   Ray D. • Conroe , TX • August 30, 2021

Replaced motor and solenoid cube along with dispenser auger. Simply watched video on repair and installation and really had no problem. My refrigerator is so old that one of the holes in the motor did not align properly. Had to drill another hole to mount the motor to the housing, took ten minutes. The ice auger took the longest as I was afraid of breaking the plastic housing trying to get the tabs to release. Had to watch the video twice to make sure I got the blades back in the right order.... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ge side by side psc25 series ff section was not cooling well (42 degrees best it could do)   Robert B. • Morgantown , WV • October 19, 2014

Common theme on the blogs was thermistors and or defrost heater/thermostat. Ran self-diagnostics which turned on defrost heater which was fine. All five thermistors indicated ok on diagnostic also, but I read more than one time "replace the thermistors no matter what if your FF section isn't cooling". So I ordered all five thermistors and defrost limiter thermostat. Received all in 48 hours (great shipping service), took me about three hours to replace all thermistors and thermostat just as... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The ice maker did not crush ice   Joy U. • Galveston , TX • October 02, 2016

When we inspected the first time we found that Plactic had broken from the spiral part that for wards the ice. Also there were cracks in two places of other parts. There was a hole in the bottom of the bin. The new spiral was assembled and two new parts were replaced with help from the video and the diagram and the unit worked well. Two months later, ice maker would not forward any ice though the bin was full. We emptied the bin sand have ordered a new part or two in hopes that they will... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You White beauty ring was discolored around ice/water dispenser to a yellowish color   Barbara H. • Wakarusa , KS • January 05, 2015

This square beauty ring was snapped in place with about 12 small retaining studs that were part of the beauty ring. By using my fingernails I could pull out the ring a bit all the way around. After working my way around the ring 2-3 times it came loose in my hand without breaking. I then installed the new one by pressing it into place with the same retaining studs that gripped ring into place. I installed this new one by also going around the ring 2-3 times and installed by hitting with my... Read more
