Used non-contact voltage detector on fan motor wires to determine that power was getting past the switch indicating motor was bad not the switch. Was able to easily remove fan by taking off 4 nuts from mounting studs leaving plenum and everything else in place, cut wiring harness close to motor leaving as long as possible wires remaining connected to switch. I replaced the downdraft fan and fan motor of my 25 year old JennAire C301 cooktop. The issue was getting the fan/motor assembly out in such a tight place. I had to first remove the fan cover, cut the wires, then the assembly came out. Putting back wasn't as tough although getting the cover back on (over the motor) was a bit of a strain. Wired it back, turned it on, and was thrilled. Now I'll replace the knobs and burners and we're back in business. Read more
