Original GE Part. Kit includes defrost heater, wire harness, and defrost thermostat. Do not order def. thermostat in addition to this kit, unless you need a spare one.
Replaced the defrost heater and thermostat. Removed the back panel in the freezer. Defrosted coils with a hair blow dryer. Removed defective unit and installed new replacement. Refer is back to normal operation. Took more time to defrost than to remove and install heating unit. Read more

Drilled out the rivets on the rear of the bucket shelf on each side (needed an angle drive drill for the left side) and removed the front screws. Installed the new shelf both sides with original screws in the front and 8-32 bolts and nuts in the rear. 3 screws to install the bucket to the auger assembly. Read more
Ok so my mom called GE and a service man came out. He said no good. The refrigerator was to old to be fixed. You will have to buy a new one .. ok so with that said he collected his $100 dollars service fee !!! I slid the refer out and started tinkering with it. It was fairly simple. The blade just slides onto the post of the condenser. Thanks to Appliance Pros, we should not have this problem again. We were offered to buy a special 28" long brush made to clean the refrigerator coils, and it works great! :) Read more
From the AppliancePartsPros web site I found that 80% of the time either one or both of the defrost heater or timer caused these symptoms. Ordered and received the parts in less than 2 days. Replaced both parts in less than 2 hours without any hassles. Only 48 hours have past but all is operating with the proper temperatures. The most likely failure was the defrost heaters, they were totally blackened when removed and the new ones were clear glass when installed. I have no way of knowing... Read more
