This replacement part is an ice auger blade, and it is intended for use in different types of appliances. This is a genuine replacement part made by General Electric. Ice auger blades are usually found in ice maker assemblies and are used during the ice-making and dispensing process. These blades are what are used when the user is in need of shaved or crushed ice. The mechanism takes full ice cubes and cuts the ice cubes down to create the different types of ice. A new ice auger blade might be needed if the user noticed that the current blades are dull or unable to cut ice. It is possible that the blades become dull over time after many years of use, so replacing them might be a good idea. Be sure the power is completely off before attempting to repair this part. This ice auger blade is sourced directly from the manufacturer and is a genuine OEM replacement part. Note that this part is sold individually.
This was a very easy repair, the on-line video at AppliancePartsPros.com was helpful. The Helix was spinning freely (meaning, the Auger Blade was not holding it in place on the Auger). Pulling the assembly apart was a snap, and very logical (the video is perfect if you get lost). The family is now enjoying both crushed and cubed ice - and the redesign of the Auger Blade seems to prevent clogging in the ice shoot. Read more

At first, because there was not any visible means of attaching the handle either on the front or inside of the refrigerator door, I thought the door may need to be replaced. However, I have viewed other repair videos from Appliance Pros so thought I would at least look to see what they had to say. I found a video that showed the VERY EASY way to replace the handles and the trim. I ordered handles and upper and lower trim. I replaced the handles in under 15 minutes! Trim is on backorder...
