The ice dispenser chute door had not been sealing for years. The ice cubes on the lower portion of the ice bin would melt enough eventually to then freeze up into a big, amalgamated blob of ice due to ambient air coming up the chute. Easy to remove the metal parts from the old bin. The only problem was that the screw that holds the adapter has red thread locker and screwdriver rounded off the head of the screw. Drilled the screw and heated the screw to loosen the thread locker and used an ease out to remove the screw. Read more

Removed the handle with two screws on the inside front and pulled out the custom wood panel. Pulled the compactor out from under cabinet. Tipped it over on back of unit, supporting it with a little foot stool. Unscrewed two lower screws at bottom of unit holding black trim panel (that held wood panel in place) and lower black rubber flap. I had to remove a metal panel at the bottom back of the freezer as well as a couple of shelf slides in order to get at a drain pan in the back. It was frozen solid, so I stabbed at it with an ice pick until I broke through, followed up by poking a coat hanger in the drain hole to clear as much as I could, then poured a little boiling water over it to follow up. Replaced both sets of door cams on my Kenmore Elite Refrigerator. The most important thing to know is that you DO NOT have to remove the doors from the refrigerator to replace BOTH sets of cams. You just have to remove the lower grill which is a snap fit (I also turned off the water and unplugged the unit). My fridge has an ice and water dispenser where the water and electrical lines go through the cams on the left side. Be sure to order the correct parts as the cam holes on the freezer side... Purchased a new ice maker, and mounting bracket, installed them, plugged in the ice maker. One note of advice. Put your old ice maker and ALL extra parts in a safe place where you can find them, but your significant other cannot. Why? Because if your significant finds them he/she may dispose of them and you will need them to install your new ice maker, I have learned the hard way. Read more
