David B Freeport , NY August 21, 2020 Appliance: Model KDFE104DBL0104DWH0 Leak from under KitchenAid dishwasher misdiagnosed by technician My dishwasher was leaking and I called to have a certified technician come to diagnose the problem. I removed the kick panel from the bottom of the machine. He turned it on and we saw that water was leaking from the bottom. He said I needed a Sump kit but it wasn't in stock. The cost was $170 plus tax and labor cost was another $140. So I talked it over with dad and ordered the Sump kit, the hose clamp and a new diverter motor as mine was yellowed with age. The cost of all these parts and shipping was less than the Sump kit from the repair people. AND IT WAS IN STOCK! I watched the how-to video from this website and I must say it was great. I used a moving box on wheels to rest my dishwasher on it as that way I could easily move it around when it was on its back and it made it easier to work on it and test it before I put it back under the counter. Use the grease provided and it makes life easier or go buy some waterproof grease at a plumbing supply or home improvement store. While testing my work I saw another leak. Unfortunately, the repairman did not pull the washer out from under the cabinet and water was squirting out the back of the motor. So I called on APP on Sunday and ordered the motor and the rubber seal. It arrived on Tuesday. The install went easy enough as working on the box on wheels made it easy to slide the motor bracket into the opening on the sump kit. I found it easier to use a plastic pry tool like you would use on body parts for a car than a screwdriver to loosen the seal. I also found it easier to first attach the seal to the motor and then slide the whole assembly into the sump kit and tighten the clamp. One important thing is that the frame that supports the washer (with the springs for the hinges and wheels) is not well constructed and any movement left to right will cause the sides to fold under the machine. It is thin metal and you need to be careful. The machine is fairly light and I can pick it up by myself with or without all the pieces in it. I plan to spend a little time with some metalworking tools to tighten up the frame and build some bracing to keep it square. I will also remember that next time I will call Appliancepartspros.com to diagnose the problem and save myself the headache of a technician who costs a fair amount of money and did not do a thorough job in diagnosing the problem. Jed R Richmond , VT August 11, 2019 Dishwasher sprayer not spraying After looking online, I found that it was typically from the pump motor on a Whirlpool dishwasher to die after three years... So after getting a quote for it to be repaired for over $350, I preferred to order the part here for $135, and it took less than a half-hour to fix. I've got clean dishes again! Thanks. Daniel M Frederick , MD October 23, 2018 Appliance: Whirlpool Undercounter Dishwasher WDT910SSYM0 The dishwasher was leaking from the the center area, water was coming down the diverter motor shaft All that really needed to be replaced was the seal on the diverter shaft. The seal is in the sump. Unfortunately the seal cannot be purchased individually and you must buy a complete new sump. I purchased a new sump and a pump grommet. The pump grommet probably did not need to be replaced but given the amount of work it took to get to that point it didn’t make sense not to replace it. Using the video on the website for the sump replacement made the job was very easy once I got the dishwasher removed from the cabinet. The video really made everything much easier. Knowing which way to turn things and what little catch had to be released was very valuable. The job took me about 45 minutes to replace everything and have the dishwasher back in place. I had to replace the clamp on the pump hose as the video shows. You might want to be prepared with the clamp before you start the job. Timothy H Apple Valley , MN April 19, 2020 Appliance: Model MDTA50SAHB0 Dishwasher wasn't cleaning, water came in and would discharge It was a learning experience. First I turned off the power! I removed the lower kick plate, disconnected the drain hose and electrical connectors. Then removed the discharge pump and heat sensor then loosened the 4 hold down arms/clamps. Then I opened the door and pulled the base up from the inside. Now to remove and replace the Pump Motor. Then reverse the process. If I were to do again, I'd pull the dishwasher out and lay it on its back. John T Phoenix , AZ July 07, 2020 Appliance: Model MAYTAG MD4949SDM3 Food particles on clean dishes (Maytag md4949 dishwasher) Chopper on this model is inside the pump housing, so the most difficult part of the job is getting the dishwasher out from under the counter. Remove the motor/pump assembly as if you are replacing the motor to pump seal. Undo the three Allen screws holding the pump housing to the motor and separate the pump housing. Clean the pump housing and motor enclosure. Lay the motor enclosure back on top of the motor, lay the new chopper on top of the motor enclosure, turning the blade to engage the dogs on the impeller shaft, then assemble the pump housing to the motor using the three Allen screws. The rubber elbow is originally held by non-reusable hose clamps, so you will need a narrow worm drive hose clamp about 40mm in diameter to reassemble.
