Ordered new transmission, nut, split washer and spanner wrench to do the install. very straight forward fix after watching the video. spanner wrench is a must or the correct large socket with an impact driver. it was corroded on pretty well let the liquid wrench work for a while and then beat it off. approximately 2 hours to do to fix, spent some time cleaning stuff up also though. washer was 12 years old and debated scrapping it and getting a new one but then it would not match the dryer. ... Replacement water fill hoses for washing machines. Connect home water supply to washer. Replace when cracked, leaking, or showing rubber wear or corrosion.
Motor control board was flashing 4 times, indicating that the mode shifter had an error. I disconnected the mode shifter's wire from the controller and measured the resistance between the 2 leads with an ohmmeter. Since the reading was infinite, that meant that the mode shifter coil or in-line thermal sensor was electrically open, i.e. bad. As this fix is near a complete tear-down of the washing machine, here are a few tips I discovered. 1) the hub nut is difficult to remove and you need a... Read more
If your washer won't agitate or makes grinding/squealing sounds, the agitator coupling may have failed. Moderate DIY repair requiring force to remove old part.
Removing the aluminum hub was ridiculous. this part should come with the rubber piece that is directly below it. removing that rubber piece is essential to the repair and is quite a battle to get off. To remove the aluminum hub ( no fasteners just a friction fit) I tried a 2 arm automotive wheel puller which pulled the arms through the aluminum with out budging the part. I finally resorted to using a Sawsall to cut a vertical slit into the hub down to the shaft so I could split it and get it... Read more

Secures washer hoses at pump, tub, and valve connections to prevent leaks and hose blow-offs. Replace worn or missing clamps for a tight seal. Confirm fit.
The video was very helpful. the hardest part is getting off old rusted parts. I had to use a hacksaw to remove one of the old clamps. I had to open the bottom of the washing machine to remove of the other clamp. Putting the new parts on was easy. Getting everything apart was a challenge. Putting the new parts on was an easy 5 minute job. Read more
Fix a washer that won't fill with hot water or overfills. This water inlet valve replacement takes about 45 minutes with basic tools and solves filling issues.
The new GE washers come with a fill valve that has a 1/8" hole for the hot water inlet. This is probably for energy savings or something. So, I installed the older style GE fill valve on my new machine. Since the older style has larger inlet holes for both hot and cold water, it fixed my problem easily. NOTE: The outlet nipple on the new style GE fill valves are larger than the older style. Therefore, I had to make a coupling piece to attach the older style GE valve outlet nipple to the... Read more
