Paul for Model Number JGS905SEK1SS Our GE range just started flashing an F7 message - there is a number on the other side (maybe 56). Understand this may be just a keypad (AP4510170) issue but were advised it could be the oven control (AP3860586) and that it would be best to replace both parts. Any danger of damaging the new part if only ordering the keypad and it turns out the oven control was bad? Any thoughts or advice?
Answer Hello Paul. Shorted matrix or START key. Determine if problem is with key panel or control by disconnecting ribbon cable and measuring flat cable. Allow up to 1000 ohms when pressing a key. If so, replace the control panel. If panel is good, replace the board. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
