The Rotor Assembly is an OEM part for LG washing machines. This component is critical for the proper functioning of the washer's motor, helping to rotate the drum during the wash and spin cycles. It works in conjunction with the stator to generate the necessary magnetic fields for drum rotation.

Causes of a bad rotor assembly can include excessive wear over time, exposure to heavy loads, or physical damage due to mishandling. A malfunctioning rotor assembly can hinder the washer’s ability to spin and agitate effectively.

Symptoms of a bad rotor assembly include:

  • The drum not spinning or agitating properly
  • Unusual noises such as grinding or clunking during operation
  • Error codes related to motor issues displayed on the control panel
  • The washer not completing wash cycles correctly

This OEM LG part is also compatible with Sears/Kenmore models.

Anthony for Model Number WMA8000

This front load LG washer in fairly new 9/2015. Received a LE error while washing. Unplugged and reset and started with same error with tub empty now. Pulled the rotor off to check spline, this unit has a metal female spline in rotor and it looked perfect. No appearance of any damage or leaking from bearing. The unit attempts to spin, but make a clunking noise, from spline area, then stops, and the LE error appears. After reading your post, I plan on double checking the magnets closely for any cracks, if they look good, not sure what the next step should be. I was planning on replacing the hall sensor, but the clunking sound makes, me believe it a physical issue. Can you please advise what steps, I should take.. Thanks in advance.

Answer

Anthony, based on the information provided, it sounds like the clunking noise is coming from the spin basket shifting inside of the outer tub. If the spin basket can wiggle around independently, or have play, in the outer tub then there is a spider shaft failure. However, if the full model number of your appliance could be provided in a new question, this will allow for the most accurate information to be presented.
