Moe & Curley for Model Number GWS9545JQ0 My Whirlpool Gold washing machine is making a loud clanking noise during the spin cycle. It gets louder as it goes through the cycle; this is a consistent ping, sounding like a hammer hitting the drum. I just replaced the washer drive block and spanner nut. I also replaced the clutch assembly kit prior to that. Both parts didn't look worn, however I still replaced them and the sound remains. Answer Moe & Curley, When you replaced the drive block WP389140 did you check the "tabs" on the top of the drive tube to make sure they were still square and not rounded off ? and did you get the spanner nut as tight as possible without "mushrooming " the tub . You may need to remove the filter assembly, under the tub and install the filter plug kit 285868.and check the wire harness to insure the harness is installed in the retainer clips along the back of the cabinet and to the motor, and in the control console, a harness that is "tapping" the cabinet will make a similar type noise.
