Manufacturer Part Number: W11454734

The Washer Gear Case is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It plays a crucial role in the washer's transmission system, managing the agitation and spin cycles by regulating the drum's movement. This ensures that the washing machine operates effectively, providing thorough cleaning and efficient water extraction.

Common causes of a bad gear case include mechanical wear from extended use, damage from overloading the washer, or internal failures within the gear mechanism. Such issues can disrupt the washer's ability to perform its cycles correctly.

Symptoms of a bad gear case include:

  • The washer failing to agitate or spin
  • Loud grinding or clicking noises during operation
  • The washer leaking oil or grease
  • Incomplete wash or spin cycles

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Answer

Doug, unfortunately, the model provided is not showing as valid. If the model number could be verified and provided in a new question, it may allow the most accurate information to be presented. However, if the model shows to be WTW5000DW1, the gearcase W11454734 can fail and not leak oil. The failure would be identified through the process of elimination. If the clutch shifter is shifting properly and the motor rotates but the spin basket does not, the drive hub W10528947 would need to be inspected for stripped-out teeth. If the hub is not damaged in any way, the transmission would be the likely cause of failure.
