The Drum Mounting Hub is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This hub connects the washer drum to the drive system, allowing the drum to spin during the wash and spin cycles. It is integral to the proper functioning of the washer, ensuring that clothes are cleaned effectively and efficiently. The kit includes the drive block, drive hub, tub nut, hardware and instruction sheet.

Causes of a bad drum mounting hub can include wear and tear from regular use, corrosion from constant exposure to water, or physical damage due to unbalanced loads or overloading.

Symptoms of a bad drum mounting hub include:

  • The washer drum not spinning or spinning unevenly
  • Loud noises such as banging or clunking during operation
  • Excessive vibration or movement of the washing machine
  • Clothes coming out wetter than usual due to ineffective spinning

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Chris for Model Number MVWX500W1

My washer was making a loud noise while spinning. I replaced the splutch assembly and belt and that did not solve the issue. Another symptom is when the washer tells the unit to stop spinning, it stops very slowly, like there is no brake. I don't know if that is normal, but I don't remember hearing the slow down of the spin when it is done. Any ideas of what else can be wrong? I was looking at possibly replacing the hub (basket drive). I don't see bearings on the parts list although many people say those go bad. I would appreciate any advice.

Answer

Hello Chris, a slow spin down is normal as this washer does not have a brake. If the hub was loose the basket would wobble and shake in spin. You can check for a loose basket/hub. The washer uses a gearcase for spin and agitation,no spin bearings. It sounds like the gearcase is causing the noise from your description.
