Neil for Model Number 106.56713500

I have a Kenmore Elite side-by-side refrigerator model 106.56713500. The ice dispensing auger is not turning when press the button. I can't determine how to open the dispensing unit to service the motor. From the inside there is no access panel to service the motor. It's one seamless unit. Seems as there are only two screws that hold the auger coupling in place. When I remove these two screws the top plate seems to be glued (foamed) in place. Do I force this plastic plate off the casing to service the motor? Or do I access the motor through the outside of the door? If so, I can't see where I would remove the front face plate. Are there screws buried somewhere?

Answer

Hi Neil. Remove the top hinge cover and disconnect the molex connectors that supply voltage to the fountain controls. Then from the bottom you remove the 4-1/4" screws that hold the motor in place. Then you having the door open will allow the room air temp to warm up the door. Yes, you can take a plastic putty knife and gently pry it lose from the top. Below it is the coupler that uses a seal and is cupped in a sleeve to rotate with the spring loaded shaft. It may take a while to let all of this melt because of a possible chute flapper kit failure. If the flapper does not close it will allow the warm air to get up into the chute and melt the lower cubes in the ice bin. They will flow down and freeze the whole motor / shaft system discussed. This is where you need to install the new kit assy. Part # W10823377. Thank You.
