Robert S. for Model Number LAT9235AAE My 1995 Maytag laundry washer would run a wash cycle but it would not evacuate the water and go into a spin cycle. The faint sound of the little electric motor in the timer is present but, no sound from the washer/spin motor. I evacuated the water out of the washer. I then unplugged the machine and leaned it backwards to check the drive belt and pump belt. Both belts are in place and intact and the pulleys freely turn with my hand. I set the machine back on it's four feet and plugged it back into the wall receptacle. I ran a new wash cycle and it ran both spin cycles fine without any problems evacuating the water. It seems to be working fine now. I don't know what is happening. I have had this Maytag laundry washer since I bought it new in 1995 and I have never had to replace the drive or pump belts, neither the drive motor. The four feet are adjusted to sit the washer level and secure without rocking or vibrating.
Answer Robert, The next time it happens raise and lower the lid, listen to hear the lid switches "click". Also check and make sure the selector knobs are on a selection, and not in-between a setting. After 20 years of use, you may want to consider replacing the belts, The belts usually last 10 to 12 years depending on usage. Read More...
