Larry M for Model Number LAT8614AAE The washer started making a noise and there was the smell of belts burning, opened lid and noticed that agitator was not moving. what could be the problem?
Answer Larry, I would think you most likely have a seized tub bearing 6-2040130 and seal 6-2095720. That's more common than a locked up transmission. You may want to double check the washer in an agitate cycle,or, Test the transmission, remove the front panel, remove the belts, and raise and block up the front of the washer. Grasp the transmission pulley and turn it counterclockwise, it should be loose and somewhat easy to turn (agitate), turn it clockwise and it should lock up and the tub should start to spin, after 3/4 to 1 revolution, you may even hear or feel the tub bearing break loose.
