Randy for Model Number LAT8234AAE The washer started to get like a burned rubber smell to it with a little smoke haze. Would it be a possible belt problem or a motor issue?
Answer Hello Randy, This is most probably a spin bearing/outer tub seal issue. You see, when the tub assembly opposes rotation, the belt will start to slip because the motor is on a spring loaded slide assembly. To verify my hypothesis, let the unit go completely through the spin cycle then feel of the bottom of the outer tub beside where the transmission goes into the bottom of the tub. If it's hot, it's the spin bearing. If it isn't hot, take the belt off of the drain pump and turn it by hand. If it has something in it, it will oppose rotation. If it feels rough, it could either have a foreign object inside it or a bad bearing. Normally, the motor will have nothing to do with a rubber burning smell. If the motor is responsible for any smell, it will be an electrical burning smell. Read More... Answered by AppliancePartsPros.com | Thursday, May 24, 2012
