By: Whirlpool
Part Number: OEM9282456
Manufacturer Part Number: 279408

The Rear Drum Felt Seal with Adhesive is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. This part creates a tight seal at the rear of the dryer drum. This seal prevents hot air from escaping the drum during cycles, ensuring efficient and even drying of clothes.

Causes of a deteriorating rear drum felt seal can range from normal wear and tear, excessive heat exposure, to mechanical issues that cause misalignment or excessive wear on the seal itself.

Symptoms of a bad Rear Drum Felt Seal include:

  • Clothes taking longer to dry or not drying thoroughly
  • Increased lint outside the dryer or in the venting system
  • Unusual noises during operation, indicating a gap or friction issue
  • Heat escaping from the rear of the dryer

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Answer

Hello Jeff, The reason you were having problems is the full model number isn't listed here. If you look again at the model number I.D. tag, you will notice three more numbers before the numbers you listed. These are part of the model number also, even though they are not in the same typeset. I guessed at the number as 110.98573120 which would make your unit a Whirlpool built unit. The part numbers I looked up for it are 279735 for the Rear Drum Seal kit, (this is a kit because it comes with the adhesive to install it with), and 349241T for the Drum Roller Support Kit. The second is a kit because it comes with both rollers and the clip.
