Manufacturer Part Number: 4318046

The Whirlpool refrigerator dual solenoid icemaker water inlet valve is an OEM replacement part responsible for controlling the water flow to the refrigerator's icemaker. It is typically located at the back of the refrigerator, near the bottom, where the water supply line connects to the refrigerator. The water valve receives signals from the refrigerator's control board to open and close, allowing water to flow into the icemaker.

The Whirlpool water inlet valve can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

This part fixes the following symptoms:

  • Failure to make ice or limited ice production
  • Loud or unusual noises coming from the water valve

Chad for Model Number ED25TQ

I recently purchased a used Whirlpool side by side. The previous party did not use the water option. When I attached the water supply, the water to the ice maker just kept running and did not shut off. I was told it was the inlet valve so I purchased a new only to find the same problem. None of the tubes were hooked on the old inlet valve so I am not sure if I have them hooked up in the proper location. Is there a plumbing diagram I could view? Or is there another problem?

Answer

Hi Chad. There are (should be) 3 hose connections on the dual solenoid water valve. The supply incoming is separate on the "front " side of the water valve as it is mounted to the cabinet. Then there is a 1/4" line side of the red side which goes to the ice maker straight up to the ice maker. The 5/16" line will hook to the green color that goes to a internal water tank. Then the tank will supply the fountain control via the lower freezer hinge door connection. If you have it correct. Then look at the ice maker when it is calling for water fill, with the arm down . Pop off the front cover and see if after the 6-second fill is over, ice maker stops lifts the bail arm and shuts itself off. Since the ice maker controls the water valve fill and will not stop, then the ice maker is shorted internally and needs replaced. This part # is 4317943. Thank You.
