Barbara, the fan motor 5304436055 would be tested for 120 VAC from white wire to white wire when it is plugged in. If there is voltage present but the fan does not operate, the motor has failed and would need to be replaced.

Barbara for Model Number 253.21421104

I have a 22 year old upright Kenmore freezer model number 253.21421104. The food at the top of the freezer started thawing. I removed everything from the freezer. The bottom back of the freezer is cold with a slight ice build up. The freezer is not freezing completely. The fan doesn't turn on and off to circulate the cold air thorough out the freezer. The temperature control knob still turns the freezer on and off. I replaced the timer. Should I replace the temperature control knob or the fan motor or both the temperature control knob and the fan motor?

1 Answer

Barbara, You will need to use a multimeter and check for power to the fan motor when the unit is turned on. If there is power (120vac) to the motor and it doesn't run, it will need to be replaced.

Barbara, If you test the fan motor and there is 120 vac to it but it is not coming on then the fan will be faulty and need to be replaced. The 2 thermostat controls are not interchangeable and the thermostat you would need is 216788000.

D, with the power supply cord unplugged and the shelves removed, the temperature knob would need to be pulled off. From there, the evaporator cover would need to be taken off to allow access to the temperature control thermostat 5304513033 and cover.

John

I bought an old chest freezer that I want to adjust to use as a fridge.  I am aware that freezer thermostats generally have a screw that can be adjusted to change the temperature range, and that many also have a "differential screw" (there may be other terms for it but I don't know them), which increases or decreases the difference between the cut-in and cut-out temperatures. I have a Frigidaire 5304513033 thermostat, and I can see two screws on it, but I don't know which is one and I'm having a hard time figuring it out through trial and error. Do you know where I can learn more about this part? Any advice or suggestions would be a BIG help to me. ? Thanks!

John, unfortunately, we would not be able to recommend altering an appliance away from the original design.

Steve, It will not make a difference which wire connects where on the switch because it is just passing power through from one to the other.

Daver for Model Number 253.22044210

I have a fairly new less than 3 years old upright freezer that is "turning off" every intermittently every 1-2 days. Front power light and internal light continues to operate while it is "off". Pulling the power cord for a reset has no effect. However, I can (so far) always reset the freezer by turning the temperature control below "2" or OFF (it has varied by the day). The compressor always starts right up and runs strong and correctly for another day or two until it "turns off" again. I'm not sure how determine the actual bad part. I'm leaning towards the thermostat control or defrost timer. Any ideas?

1 Answer

Dave, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty control board with the unit shutting off for hours at a time.
