How to Troubleshoot & Replace Frigidaire AP4019644 / 154580301 Dishwasher Drain Pump Assembly

Replaced pump assembly 

Replaced Drain Pump Assembly. Also had to clean out hose as the back flow flap had disengaged and was lodged in the hose. Diagrams were a great help. 

The dishwasher was cleaning OK but the noise was terrible. I viewed some instructional videos on line to pinpoint a problem in the drain pump. I also determined that I have been neglecting periodic inspection & cleaning debris in the wash chamber. After cleaning the interior, I removed the washer, laid it down & removed the pump. Inspection & cleaning revealed no foreign matter so I reinstalled every thing & started it. Still noisy. The pump must be bad. Ordered a new one. So far it was a good decision. The dishwasher is quieter than it's been in 10 years. 

Bought new pump ... one worm drive clamp, one wire clamp, two wire connections on terminals and a small screwdriver to wiggle in the holes of the plastic connector in the back ... removed old unit ... soap on te tube fittings and reassemble! Super easy. Ps, dra8nagemcdonough as much water bu hand as you can .. and put a "lipped" cookie sheet under pump before you remove drain line and pump to catch residual. 

Replaced the drain pump. I chose to pull the dishwasher out. Although it looks like you maybe able to do this job by just removing the front kick panel. Gave me a chance to clean under the dish washer and make sure there was no other leaking. After removing by unplugging the power water line and drain line. Very easy. I pulled it out and set it on its back side. Very light weight. The pump is very easy to get to in this position. The old pump looked exactly the same as the new one and very quickly I had the old one out and the new one in. Couldn't believe a repair man would have charged me 180$ to do this job. I replaced every thing and it fired right up and works perfectly. Can't believe how easy it was. This was my first time working on a dishwasher so don't hesitate to try it. 

Easy fix part came super fast 3 days to my door even with holiday . Just pulled washer out unhooked water line and electrical connections. Had to drain water from tub.. Flipped machine on its side , unplugged power connectors from pump .. Three torque screws and a hose clamp pump was out.. Just reversed process pump reinstalled .. Put rehooked connections water line and back under the cabinet 

The part was an exact fit, video was very helpful and everything worked fine. BUT in the end it didn't need replacement, the problem was caused by a blockage in the drain at the vent in the sink so a tip is to make sure the drain line's good before starting. 

I ordered the drain pump assembly from AppliancePartsPros.com, and it arrived the next day via regular shipping. Since I'd never replaced a drain pump before, I watched the instructional video on the page I ordered the pump from, and found it very helpful. It pointed out that with my dishwasher, it wasn't necessary to pull the dishwasher out to perform this operation, so that probably cut the repair time in half. After turning off the power switch and water supply to the dishwasher, I just removed the kick plates and was able to easily access and remove the old drain pump using the tools suggested in the video. Installing the new one was easy too. The whole job from getting the few necessary tools together to cleaning up took 30 minutes. I checked my circulating pump to make sure no debris was lodged in the impeller. That was clear and motor turned perfectly. When I put it back in I ended up stretching out the O rings. Two suggestions when reinstalling the circulating pump: 1) Remove the volute cover from inside the dishwasher. Mine covered a little part of the opening and was probably the cause of the O rings getting stretched out. Reinstall that after pump installed. 2) lubricate the O rings with some liquid dish soap and it will slide right in and not damage the O rings. Drain pump also checked and no debris found. While it still spun when powered it made a pretty strong buzzing sound even when not connected to the dishwasher. I think the bearings were going bad. Note my dishwasher is 7 years old and these are the first issues I have had with it. The pump still worked, but I just didn't like the annoying sound. In the end the reason for the backup was simply a clog in the drain tube leading to the disposal. Probably could have saved myself a bunch of time and cash checking that first, but now I should be good to go for a while.
