How to Troubleshoot & Replace Frigidaire AP5645246 / 134711401 Outlet Thermal Fuse

Replaced outlet thermal fuse and control thermistor. 

I swapped out the inner and outer thermal limiter switches as well as the thermostat while I had the dryer opened up. The videos on this site made it easy for a novice to do alone. It took a few hours and some patience but the machine works perfectly now and saved me from buying a 1k+ new dryer. I believe only one of the limiter switches had failed, but the parts are reasonably priced and the effort is spent in the disassembly and reassembly of the machine. It was best to order the most common parts that fail for that model and switch them out all at once. I was also able to clean out the inside of the machine and then run a better hard-line exhaust for the dryer.

Replaced it 

After looking up youtube videos on how to correct the "door open" error message I replaced the blown thermal fuse on the heater housing. I cleaned the exhaust hose and filter to like new condition. I even tested the cycling of the heat going from high heat to step down after 15 minutes with a thermometer to be sure it was not running on high heat 100% of the time (youtube video). The thermal fuse kept blowing. I found appliancepartpros on the internet and called tech support. The very helpful technician/parts expert advised to replace 2 other parts associated with this common problem (high limit thermostat and second thermal fuse on exhaust). I watched the videos on the website on how to install and it was very simple. I feel pretty confidant that this is going to fix the problem for good! Thank you! 

The outlet fuse is in series with the dryer door light on my Frigidaire Affinity, so if the light doesn't come on, after change the bulb, you know the fuse is burnt out. I also replaced the thermostat, because I think that was the cause of the thermal fuse blowing. The video was helpful, but I choose to go in through the back instead of the front. There are more screws taking the back off, but you don't have to remove the drum. I took the top off, removed about 40 screws from the back, and the electrical connection. Replaced the thermostat, the inlet and outlet thermal fuses, and put everything back together. It took a little less than two hours. Oh yeah, you need a square tipped screw driver. 

Unplugged my machine. Used a multimeter to check continuity though the thermal limiter. He meter indicated an open line. So I pulled the flag connectors off it and stuck them together like Legos. Plugged in the machine and it powered up. Now that I know what's wrong, I ordered the thermal limiter and a thermostat (likely the cause of overheating.). Thermostat is a bit tricky to unscrew. You'll need a very short philips screwdriver. 

Replaced the thermal limiter.
